Red Bull and Forsythe to Atlantics

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/champcar/34354/

Bloody marvelous! I am extrememly pleased to see Wickens in Atlantics next season. This kid is quick. I've seen him in karts many times (bit of a homer here) and had him pegged for bigger things. Glad to see it coming to fruition!

Where does this leave the other four drivers they had last year?

I'll tell you this. Wickens earned his Red Bull sponsorship, he wasn't born into it. And kudos to Red Bull for being such a solid backer of motorsports and young driver TALENT!

What is unfortunate is that 3 of the 4 drivers they had last year where in the top 10. I believe evn one of them came 3rd in the standings.

Odd that Red Bull will sponsor this kid at Forsythe, but not AJ...

A J is still with Red Bull to my knowledge. A J went for the $$$ security. Look at it like this, our Champ Bourdais won $500,000.00 with the Vanderbilt Cup. The 8th place finisher in the Championship of the Nextel Cup, Kasey Kahne got a check for $6,204,222.00. Keep in mind that the Nextel figure is for the seasons winnings. With the season ending payout it brought his total winnings to $7,772,100.00. Bourdais won $500,000.00 just for the cup but factor in the monies for the races and poles it would be hard to see him net more than $1.5 million. Unfortunately, CCWS does not provide the payouts for the races that I can find. So, now you can see why A J took the leap to the bumper car section of the fair.

I thought that the Vanderbilt paid $1M?

Not that it matters... Your point is well-taken, racinthestreets.

My point was more that if Red Bull could have theoretically sponsored AJ at Forsythe, paid him a salary of a couple million and Forsythe could have kicked in a million. That together with prize money might have been ~$4M and probably kept AJ in the series.

I believe they reduced the Vanderbilt prize money. I'm not sure what the prize money from each race is worth today. I'm not sure if they reduced it further when they lowered the year end money. Keep in mind that drivers like Tag survive exclusively off of race prize money. I remember reading somewhere about how much he made a couple of years ago. I think it was a couple hundred Gs.

Too right Ace. Robert has a ton of talent and I look forward to following his career as he goes. I was hoping he would find a drive in Europe but, Forsythe, Red Bull, hard to beat that. Good for him, he earned it.
