Formula Super A engines

Does anyone know if these engines still exist? I know that they're not raced anymore but were the engines left to rot or are they still available? If they are available, are spares easy to come by? What sort of price would one expect to pay for them?

Hi ghinzani,

The engines I'm thinking about are the ones used in the 1995 - 1997 Formula Super A championships, When guys like Danilo Rossa, Jenson Button, Pantano and Raïkkonenn were racing in the class.

I'm looking at buying a few engines however I'm just wondering if there are still any around.

Thanks

I've got a Vortex in the garage, what were they used in? It knocks my Rotax for six speed wise, its just the pushing thats a pain.

Is the Vortex Rotary or reed vlve?

The rotary valve engine will have been used in Formula A, untill it got down graded, then used in 100 National.

If it is the reed valve motor it will have been used in 100B/ICA. the differences between the 100B and ICA versions are basically down to the inlets. ICA used slide carbs whereas in 100B they used the tilotson.

I know there is still some Ital, Vortex and Titan air cooled motors around, they tend just to get used as "toys" as they can't really be raced in MSA events.

My Vortex has a Tllotsen IIRC - I use it in non-MSA racing, wever got some right old 100s down here, but because its a twisty track they go on for ever.

There used to be a class for older air cooled engines when junior 100B started using reed valve (pre JICA) and it was called junior 100B clubman. The same sort of thing was applied to senior classes, they even had age ranges for the engines, pre 1995 and pre 1992 and these classes worked really really well.

The problem is now for a lot of circuits is the noise. Water cooled motors are so much quieter.

It wasn't that long ago that I sold my 2 works Titan engines that I used for only one season in Super 1.
