Raltracer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Monoposto 2006

I am interested to start a thread on the Mono grid combatants for 2006. 2005's front runners showed consisted of 5 different chassis competing on lap times at seconds apart, several driver getting fastest laps and race winners.

Eagerly looking forward to the fray .. having now sold my trusty ex brundle Ralt RT3 and just amd finishing the rebuild of a VD formula ireland chassis to hopefully get on the pace straight away.

Hope to run ot around Brands in the next few weeks .. if it warms up a bit

Grid level look to be up this year on the last, which is even better

Any views or predictions invited.

Mono seems a good calender this year ..

Draft Calendar is:

See reply to Ray message for calender ..

Seems a good balanced calender this year .. good spread of dates .. and some of rthe old track bak on the calender. But alas no Brands or Silverstone GP circuits it seems .. especially as there is more use of the GP circuit at brands this year !

I'll prop up the back of the grid at a few events, as usual, but its a shame that there's no Donington and Mallory this year.

Donnington and Mallory

Hi Andy,

I do not miss Mallory .. too much banging a crashing !

Donington though has been a dissapointment though recently. The last Monoposto race there was a bit of a joke due to the organaisation on the day (hasten to add .. I was not there !) but the facilities have been made to be a joke compared to the way JP has spruced up the BHL circuits.

Could never face those loos again.

They've knocked down the old pits/loos/garages at Donington over the winter apparently and put up new ones - so its even more of a shame we can't play there. I see Cadwell on the calendar - now that should be pretty terrifying in a single seater.

Do I hear that Robin Dawe has sold his car and if so is someone else running it?

Mark Harrison is running it - he won in it at Mallory on Boxing Day.

I have not seen the new Donington Pit complex yet but it has been built to meet the requirements of Moto GP so it should be up to modern standards, and bring the facilities into the 21st century.

Robin Dawe has sold his car to the Harrisons, I believe, so they will have 2 Dallaras out.

The TOMS has been fettled to death, including fixing the starter motor system and rebuilding the gearbox - both of which will go bang at the first meeting. Having obtained all the old F3 setup data, all the wheels are pointing in the right direction and as I have lost over a stone another lump of lead has been added under my seat!!!!

See you all at Silverstone.

I invested in a space heater from machine mart!!!

Tyres are the ubiqutous F3 radials (second hand) because I am far too mean to buy new. There has been some debate on these elsewhere in this forum. As far as I am concerned they are the tyres the car was designed to run on and as long as you don't over use them they have loads of performance left in them when the top teams throw them away. To be frank if I bought new, I don't suppose I am good enough a driver to realise the benefit anyway!
What was a Formula Ireland designed to run on apart from Guinness and blarney ??

Blarney & Guiness and Tyres

bronwen is impressed you have lost half a stone and as been encouragingme to do the same .. but 'old fat barstard racing' is here still ..

The FIre ran on Dunlop radials which according jeremy and man McGarrity in Ireland were and are better than the VL tyres they used with more wear to be had. But yet to try them .. but .... I am told that the Radical Dunlop tyre purchased at their contract rates is a slightly softer and better compound.

However the carbon fibre radial and crossply from Avon is really hard to beat .... it is so much lighter than other tyre constructions .. I could not get the wear even on the ralt in 05 as it rolled and flopped around so much they lasted a few races only .. but budget tighter this year so may go for 2nd hand f3 tyres as well .. how much you get them for ?

f3 radials at £40 per set ?

I would worry about the real value of f3 radials at £40 per set.

Nah - I get them at a tenner each from a top (the top?) F3 team and some are often hardly used - its the going rate.

By the way it was over a stone - amazing what you can achive when the doc says you have neat fat in your veins instead of blood!!!!

Space heaters are wonderful! Even the smallest will raise the January temperature of a double garage to tolerable levels surprisingly quickly.

f3 tyres

Hmmm need to reduce costs this year seems it could be worth my while checking this out.

As far as thinning blood I use the age old remedy .... red wine!

Are you out testing at all .. when this cold weather eases will trip to Brands for half a day to see if it works or have left some bolts of (as usual)

Going to the Mono AGM and shindig ?

Testing will probably Llandow in Feb or even the Haynes Motor museum track (short but only 5 miles away). Or even more likely leave it until the last moment and then panic - as usual.

I spoke to Silverstone about testing the day before in March but it is booked exclusively on the Friday and there is Saturday racing so no go there.

Can't make the AGM unfortunately - have one for me!

How about trying the car out in the BARC-SEC single seater races on the Stowe circuit on the Saturday, the day before the SUNBAC meeting.

Practice, a 10 min race and a 20 min race for about £110. At least you'll know that the car works OK.
