Drink The Battle For Bathurst

For budding photographers out there, hope you don't mind having mesh in the frame??
Get use to the new look. It will eventually make its way around most of the track.

Bit unattractive, notice the starters box has gone also.

Wonder how much that will effect things from the top of the grandstand

Think this one should have it's own thread. Not good for photos as you said

Why do they need to, besides being able to pinch the pit equipment?

Right with you on this Peck.

One wonders why, in 2013, all of a sudden these changes are being made? Its not as if this kind of spectator safety fencing is something new to motorsport.

Next there will be no hill at Hell Corner, only grandstand seating.
Don't try changing the Mountain it is a great racetrack

believe something to do with the increased usage, B12, Easter etc and the risk of F3's going into the crowd (well where the crowd would be if it was the B1000) if they were to touch wheels

Ostensibly because the track has been extended to the concrete barriers with the removal of the grass strip that used to be there. One wonders what difference that would really make regarding hazard to spectators? (ie did the risk all of sudden become so great as to demand a debris fence)

just thought i would mention 34 more sleeps.

our crew is a bit smaller this year, the old timers came out of the woodwork for the 50 year thing. Only 11, but two rookies this year.

I will be stopping at the Dog on the tuckerbox on the way therethis year, it has special meaning for me.

T shirts are mostly designed, have cut some cost there this year, we had them printed last year, where as this year we are doing them ourselves

edit hey AP, booked your tickets for Barbagallo yet

Bathurst is one of those rare tracks where the amateur clicker can still get decent shots, and I DO mind having mesh in there! The pit straight fence doesn't bother me too much as the cars generally hang right and are half obscured by the armco anyway. I only bothered with grid shots from there. Hope the shots taken from the Conrod Stright side of Murray's Corner will still be OK ... for a while. I can see the bridge at Hell Corner being an even more popular vantage point in the future.

Also hope they stay away from the top for a while yet, I love the shots you can get up there!

IF they put the fence all the way around the track watch crowd numbers fall faster than the cars going around the track. Just like the 2ltr cars many years ago it will be 2men and a dog trackside on top of the mountain.

If you have a really close look at the photo in the article link in the OP you'll see the catch fence is actually at least 1 metre behind the concrete wall so you'll be able to go under the catch fence and then over the concrete wall

Actually the first time they did that was back in the 80s - when Tooheys sponsored the event. They got pourage rights and didn't want people bringing their own in.

Although as you said, the booze still got in. I went up to the top of the mountain on a Friday with my dad and we had a 5-tonne truck. They just asked if we had any alcohol, we said no and they waved us through. We could have had 1000 cases in the back for all they knew.

Would love to understand the thought process behind this comment.
If there was one.

I would have no problems at all watching an Erebus cross the line in the Top5 or even win it, but there's really nothing to suggest it is possible. (OK, they are competing and will grid up)
