i havn't seen any yet.

if the big numbers on the window are introduced they won't have the door numbers, don't mind the style in WRC but they look **** on a V8 and i kind of like everyones different style/ colour just like a livery.

That's rather naff as a change to trial. Surely they should keep the name written on the car, or require the name to be sign-written elsewhere. 50 years of touring car racing with the number on the door, the radical fluro supporting brigade is less than effective in the WRC and has no place in touring car racing!

It has merit in rallying where it's often dark and the sides of the car are covered in mud (over here, anyway!). Really not sure about it on race cars. From a marshalling point of view, what you want is numbers of a reasonable size and in a standard position so that you can pick them up quickly, so there's no implications there.

IMO, the best numbers are NASCAR where the fans identify with the car number, and the worst are F1 where they're difficult to read even if you're standing next to the car.

Why would Mr Lowndes put Mr Tander's 2008 number on his car?

From Vmag

“We are just trying to make it easier to
identify the cars. If this works OK we may
not need to run the numbers on the side of
the car anymore.”
The three items being tested were:
a large number of the passenger door of
the car in place of the driver’s name;
having the number on the rear
windscreen moved to the top corner,
mirroring the number on the front of the
car; and different colours.
“A number of the teams are very positive,
they like the idea of maximising sponsor’s
signs on the sides of the car,” Sakzewski
said.

The team's would be wouldn't they.

Regardless of how big of a WPS logo they may well be able to cram onto Bargs car without that pesky number getting in the way, race cars should have proper numbers on them.

ditto for me Webber, i think a number is part of the livery and the teams individuality, but i suppose if it makes iteasier for the marshalls it would be good, but i don't think it will make a difference in race control.

No, they'll just continue to pick cars at random to issue penalties to.

Here is a brilliant idea. How's about teams that use two cars have different livery's so you can tell who's who.

Sponsors would love that, If they back a two-car team, one of them wouldn't be in 'corporate' colours.

And where would you find 30-odd different naming rights sponsors for each car?

maybe have 'reverse' colour schemes like if the team colours are red/blue have one car red/blue and the other blue/red.
