Race Driver + Numbers = ????????????

Did anyone else enjoy Rusty's Vortex 98 seconds on RPM today?

Let me get this straight...

... a single car V8Supercar team costs $1.5m per annum to run....

... yet somehow "some teams" have "30, 40, 50" people working for them...

Hmmmm... Team X with 50 people x 40k/person = $2m.

At $1.5m income per car, a 2 car Team X will have $1m left to run the car.

Tyres burn up $0.2m a season of that, which leaves $800k to build cars, run cars, transport people all round the country (world?), run a transportter etc etc etc.

Sorry... methinks he's dreaming....

I wonder why someone wouldnt want the world to know the dollars going into a major V8Supercar team? I mean $3.5m per car in income is not uncommon, perhaps more if you converted to cash the freebies and assistance offered by sponsors. motor manufacturers and patrons.....

There are deals around for $1.5m per annum in the main game... they usually field a car that sits in the bottom 20% of the field though...

Lowndesfan6 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The shell budget in 1994 was 4 million.

That's what dicky told us at a conference a couple of weeks after the Bathurst win.

It was really interesting. 3.5 Million dollors per year is a lot of money in regular people.

You do realise economies of scale in two car teams though.

I would suggest that theorically it costs $100 to run one car for the season, it would not cost $200 to run two cars. I think that the true figure for running two cars would be somewhere between $150-160. This is why the single car V8 Supercar team is fastly becoming a dying breed.

Due to the Ford teams sharing the SBR engine, and the Perkins sharing on the Holden side. They split the cost of a lot of things. The Perkins Portfolio of cars would possibly acheive the best economies of scale due the fact that there is 4 cars that run under the Perkins Banner, and it provides engines to SCAR Also.

Having said that. I have read reports many years ago (around 2000-2001) that HRT racing budget for the year was $10 Million. Whether this figure was inflated or not is up for debate.

Apparentally the Minardi F1 team runs off $40 Million a year. And they have close to 100 staff and fly all around the world??

DKGandBH has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I would think that the 1.5M is the running costs...
Not the set-up costs that include transperters etc.

Jason, I don't think Minardi's budget is in Aus dollars... Besides, the boss owning an airline would have to help with staff transportation....

Team Kiwi blames $2 part for slump in V8 Supercar racing
27 July 2005
By ANDREW MCALLEY

The failure of a $2 part is being blamed by Team Kiwi for their drop in placings in the seventh round of the V8 Supercars held in Queensland on Sunday.

Team boss David John said he would be asking some hard questions of his team after a broken oil hose fitting clip cost the team five laps in the 300km race at Ipswich.

The all black New Zealand team's car finished 29th and John said it was devastating to Team Kiwi's forward momentum in the single race round.

The failure of the clip added insult to injury, as the same part failed in the round six at Darwin and Team Kiwi had now dropped to 12th place overall.

John said the team could not afford another slip in the remaining seven rounds in their aim for a top-10 finish for the season. "We've spent $10 million in the past five years developing this team to the stage where we're a serious competitor, so to find a $2 part pushed us from a top-10 place to near last is frustrating for the whole team."

In a Ford quinella, Craig Lowndes edged out Marcos Ambrose to take out the 300-lap endurance race with Holden's Garth Tander finishing third.

Maybe they should spend-up big and spend $3 on the replacement part next time. Also that report said the Queensland race was a 300-lapper. Did I leave early and miss some of it?
