I hope to god that it isn't mickey mouse, and that it's at least two miles long.

It's been embarassing enough that they've had to change the location twice. Let's hope the finally get a decent circuit out of it.

The San José City Council is scheduled to consider the new route at its meeting on April 12.
So it won't be known if it is an approved track for another 2 weeks

This is the 2nd route not new 3rd one. I just read the article on CCWS.

It means they slammed it through VTA on Wednesday Night (hence the 3/31 date of the story). Now it goes back to the city council, which should be a rubber stamp.

The only thing I've read about the new route is that it is 1.8 miles long. Still no track map.

This is a picture of the new San Jose GP layout. Now let's hope it's approved.

That actually looks like it might not be all bad. Some nice long straightaway there.

Youd hate for one of the guys to have brake failure going into that hairpin with the grandstand on the outside !!

I hope the first chicane is fast like adelaide, and not slow like the one on teh back straight at surfers.

It would be a lot better if they swapped the pitlane with the front straight. A nice long run into the hairpin would help passing a lot.

I hope the chicanes aren't too tight.

I remember, what it reminds me of now, the 2003 layout of the Miami street circuit.

Straight lines and ninety degree corners. Hmm.

I wonder how wide it is?

It now supposedly goes across light rail lines twice and the VTA staff was against that because it ties up commuter traffic into town on a business Friday. That hairpin, by the map, looks very, very tight because it's the same street with a barrier in between. IMO, this still needs some more thinkin'.

What's wrong with that? The final corner at Long Beach is the same exact thing. It's been there the whole 28 years its been a track. Granted, its been moved over the years, but it works, or they'd have changed it by now. I'm expecting the hairpin at San Jose to be the same way.

I read on one of the other forums, that Alameden BLVD is eight lanes wide. It is plenty wide for the hairpin.

(Is it just me, or is San Jose nuts to close down such a major artery?!)

Yeah, that looks like a nice layout, but it would probably do more harm than good to negatively impact public transit for the race. I do like the looks of the hairpin. It could be a great corner to watch...

San Jose City Council approves new track layout

NEW LAYOUT WOULD LOOP THROUGH S.J. DOWNTOWN

By Rodney Foo

Mercury News

Quote:
The San Jose City Council voted unanimously to approve a new downtown race course for the first ever San Jose Grand Prix, scheduled to be run at the end of July.
Quote:
The original course circled HP Pavilion. The new layout will bring race cars into the heart of downtown, looping around the McEnery Convention Center, past the Hotel DeAnza, the Tech Museum of Innovation, and Cesar Chavez Plaza. The new course will showcase downtown to a television audience, provide more passing areas and accommodate more racing crews. It also avoids interfering with construction on two Highway 87 overpasses.

I like the look of this circuit. A good design with plenty of spots to overtake on, now if only 10 would put it on at a good time so i could watch it (not 11 at nite)

You know what the layout reminds me of? It reminds me of the Seattle Circut track in the Gran Turismo 3 and 4 games! Like the SJ track, Seattle has this long straightaway followed by a 180-degree hairpin turn. Then another straight, followed by a left-hander.

Life imitating art, in my opinion!

Jason, that's actually the first chicane (turns 1 and 2). Don't know how fast it'll be though.
