Please Sir, can we have some more F3?!?
Gentlemen. After watching some of the F3 action on the weekend, I've come to this conclusion:
With Formula Holden starting to die (especially now Birrana isn't around) i would dearly like see the emergence of F3 as our leading open wheeler catogory. I see it as better stepping stone to international racing as well as the possibility of having more international teams competing in the country. (Ie. Olivia Newton-John last year) with maybe a Pau/Macau style race as well somewhere around the country?? |

F3 certainly seems to becoming more popular this year.
James Cressey's car, in case you haven't heard, was destroyed in an accident on the Hume Freeway outside Yass this morning - http://www.racetime.com.au/?racenews=00001268 - both cars were, as I undertsna dit, completely destroyed however, fortunately, no body was injured. |

Bit hard for me to 'drop in' and say Hi when I am confined to the control tower from the Wednesday afternoon through to the Sunday night!

My friends are sick of me saying "I told you so" when it comes to the FHolden/F3 debate. I said 3 years ago when we brought the first F396 into the country that this would hapen and they said I was mad.
MAD, huh? Formula Holden was always set to implode. The cars are just to damn expensive and they are too hard to run in terms of manpower needed. Towards the end of the madness, top teams like NRC and Birrana were asking $30,000 to $35,000 per round!! And that was not because they could charge that and get away with it. That was what they actually neede to put one on the trakc (at least that included the test day in tha price). F3 Australia are quite conscious of this happening (most of us were involved in FHolden from the start) and are already trying to keep a handle on costs. A season of British F3 will currently cost you about 300,000 pounds (approx. AUS$800,000) which is not what we want to see happening. The TV package which PROCAR have come up with (Nathan Pendergrast actually stitched that togethor) was most impressive and can only go to furthering the sport. What it really needs is more FFord/karting kids to have a crack. It is not as expensive as you would think and thier is a capable team in nearly every state now. At the end of the day, this formula is a nursery and needs a continual infusion of young blood to survive. As we say, much of what they (the drivers) call testing, we call driver training. |

Big Mac, maybe you'll get some more Formula 3....but for those of us after some Formula Ford action - forget it - read in Auto Action that there will be no coverage this year. Shame really, always liked the FFords myself.

It's interesting. This week I have had 3 or 4 media releases from F3 teams and the organisation.
From Formula Holden - absolutely nothing.... Says something about the organisers of each category IMHO |

read today that formula holden has pulled together some respectable drivers last minute. one of them F3 champ peter hacket. Would have he got this drive 4 free or would he and his sponsor be paying... should be interesting to see how he does and what he thinks of the series.

I think he got it at a vastly reduced rate for teh weekend.
Pete's been a bit busy up until now trying to do a deal for F3000 but can't crack the money problem. Pity, I think he's quite a talent if he can learn how to respect tyres........ |
