Panis is back

As reported a few weeks ago Panis has been the third driver for Toyota at Magny Cours. He ran through Toyota's program, but also said "I enjoyed myself a lot". What a buzz driving an F1 car must be even for those who have started 158 GP.

On another point, this weekends French GP will be the first French GP since the begining of time without a French driver. At least Renault is doing well.

Are you sure that there was a French Driver in Clermont-Ferrand in 1965?

Yes it is 40 years, as the Autosport article says. I was exaggerating somewhat. Its significance is no less.

Friday drivers are Grand Prix drivers, according to Michelin who counted 19 signatures from 8 2-car teams.

They are indeed, Boots, but for the purposes of this statistic, we're looking at "race" drivers.

In that case, I would guess that 1965 was the only French GP until now that did't have a French driver.

(IIRC, the "next" one ---the 1964 French GP--- had a French driver who had been in F1 since 1950; I've skipped a number of similar periods before getting to 1965 ... )
