Sad news
Although that article does contain some stunning journalism. Quote:
More seriously, it is interesting that they have now closed or sold pretty much everything in the right hand drive world. |

If you have previously put a Chevy bowtie on a Holden Commodore, now you won't have to bother.....
Sad the brand is being retired but it kinda hasn't been Holden for a bit now |

Red Bull Chevrolet Racing Team presumably. Guess that will mean those who like to refer to Holdens competing in Supercars as Chevrolets, based on the origin of the engine block, will now have to find a new putdown.

Chevrolet won't have any RHD cars to sell. General motors are leaving the Australian market.

Quelle surprise! Looks like a lot of new car showrooms are going to have to be re-purposed ...
Not sure we needed a new thread for this, IIRC there is at least one other thread discussing the Commodore disappearance that canvassed this development. |

They are currently, and dealer signage can be changed fairly readlily. GM have announced that it intends to stay in the market here with its speciality vehicle range and is working with its partner (Walkinshaw) re that.

The official statement is that the RHD Corvette is not dead but that any GM vehicles sold here in the future will be on a minimal scale compared to the present set up.
So likely just a niche market for some conversions as is the case now but not on the scale that would justify dealerships or motorsport sponsorships. We will see but it does not look optimistic now no matter how rose-coloured your glasses are. Looks like a case of glass half empty or glass half full of poison. |

Numbers definitely much smaller & maybe not all the current 56 dealers selling the converted vehicles will want to keep doing so, maybe more will.
More will no doubt come out in due course but agree completely that from the locally sold numbers alone, Motorsport feels unlikely - although the brand internationally may choose to support local Motorsport, all remains to be seen. |

Simpler to just have a grid full of Mustangs.

Nah simpler to run a grid full of race cars sans manufacturer involvement.

A one make series would seem to be the obvious answer, it was mooted previously when Ford departed the series.

Agreed. I would suggest using the 5.2L Alluminator crate engine (a very reasonable $34,000AUD as opposed to $150,000AUD for the Windsor with it's hundreds of hours of custom machining) to ease transition costs for Holden teams.

The way I am reading the release, this could generate a significant windfall for DJ Walky?
I think he has delivered a remarkable facility and capability and if GM gives him enough of their cars, and the numbers for conversion work out, he could end up sell a LOT of cars. |

That is the arrangement for example that Subaru have with Inchcape, and have done for many years. Currently Ateco look after Ram, LDV and Maserati in this way and have previously done the same for Fiat and Alfa. Audi was imported and run by Inchcape for years, the list is actually pretty extensive of brands that have been imported/distributed by independents. We'll find out more in the months to come no doubt. |
