Which engine is used in the Abt-Audi TT-R?

Which engine is used by Abt/Audi in their DTM car? Is it a 4L V8 Mader (based on a BMW (!) engine) or a Mugen MF408S engine?

i think they had the mader engine in their first year and then switched to something honda-based which could be the mugen you mentioned, think it had the same base as the honda irl engine

Which is not honda at all, but an Ilmor made piece badged as a honda (last ditch effort by the company to join IRL- of course they have had their inputs since)
so the Ilmor motor isn't that owned by Mercedes? it was penske- who used Mercedes turbos ilmors in CART and sold it to mercedes outright- now owned by Detroit Diesel?

Ilmor is owned by Mercedes.

It is only since yesterday that I am aware that Audi doesn't uses a VAG engine in their car. I thought it wasn't permitted to use an engine from another manufacturer. If I am right Opel uses an engine from Opel's sister brand Oldsmobile.

I think the Opel's V8 engine is in some way related to the Chevrolet IRL engines, that's what I read.

Abt Audi DTM engine

The engine in the Abt-Audi is a Mugen V8 built by Neil Brown Engines in the UK... strange but true...

(See the short article on it in Race Engine Technology, the brand new sister mag to Racetech...)

so the abt engine is not related to the ilmor/honda irl motor,
and the opel V8 engines which originated from an IRL Oldsmobile Aurora V8 (GM), which led to the evolution of the Chevy IRL V8- now the New IRL Chevrolet V8's are Cosworth designed and built, so the new Opel V8 mayverywell be the old Chevy Gen III, but horror is it was a cosworth (ford) in another GM project

The world of (racing) engines is very confusing nowadays.

You are right about Neil Brown, I found this at www.audizine.com:
Quote:
A V8 engine powers every car contesting the DTM with Audi's thundering, flame-belching 455bhp block tuned by renowned British engine builder Neil Brown, of Spalding, Lincolnshire. Other components such as the gearbox, brakes, tyres and engine electronics are also "controlled" by the organizers and are identical on each car. The Audi rockets from 0-60mph in a little over three seconds.

What??? The engine in the Audi is not even part of the VAG family, but a Honda engine?? That's not terribly cool???? Then part of the victory should go to Honda since they're powering the Audis????

But uses a Honda/Mugen engine. So I would say Abt-Audi TT-R powered by Honda.

well the engine used in the opel stems from teh chevy IRL engine and i'd have to say the older chevy IRL engine because the new chevy IRL engine is built by Cosworth. but back to my point. as i said the opel engine is based off the old chevy IRL engine and that was also used as a base for the cadillac 4 liter twin turbo V8 that ran in their LMP program in 2000 to 2002

I thought Mugen recently sold up to another set of people and have no links with Honda, now at least.

Mugen was found evading taxes and was sold, as an entity
Honda and HPD (honda performance development) still own the intellectual rights and comercial branch of Mugen Products (for street apps and even racing parts) so the name won't goo away, but the company of old is gone (i am not sure how it is all related though)
so the Abt engine is not Ilmor-Honda based but
Niel brown-Honda/Mugen

At least the Opel engine is from somebody in the family! Audi basically went outside of their company!!

i dunno but their current V8 is a 4.2 liter but i dunno if it's a 90 degree V8 and of course if tehy could use the 4.2 V8 it would have to be destroked to 4 liters
