Triumph 2000 Racer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Period Race Wheels for Triumph 2000 Mk1

I have an invite to race at 72nd Members but they do not allow Minilite style wheels.
I need period looking wheels
13inch X 5.5/6.0 J with 4.5inch PCD to fit tyres.
Regretfully not wealthy enough to splash out £600 + for a set to fit TR6 type wheels or TR5 for One Race however prestige. There must be a suitable stock Wheel somewhere out there!

Any suggestions greatfully received.

Cheers

5"x 13" steels fitted to marina/ital 1/2 ton truck and van! Not 5 1/2" I know, but should not be £600 a set.

As BL only ever used Minilites, would have though they would be period???
I think the 2.500 used 5.5 steels

I know the BL 1800 "Land Crabs" used them as I worked on one in period and that was about the same time .

Well , strictly speaking , Gp 1 regs only allowed the original homologated wheels .
Have just had a look at the papers & they list 4 1/2 x 13 inch steels .

So it might be best to have a word with the event scrutineer to see just what they will allow .

Triumph 2000 Mk 1 Wheels for Goodwood

Problem nearly solved. A Company in Essex will band wheels up to 6J for £50 per wheel. So can use existing set of tyres and satisfy Goodwood aethetics !
Entry sent !

My apologies, I wasn't aware the Triumph 2000 was entering the Gp1 races.

During my time restoring BMC/BL cars, all of those cars were on Minilites. Two of those cars were the type being discussed, niether was on 4.5in steels.Perhaps the earliest form on rule bending?

In Gp 2 there was a lot more freedoms with wheels , arches ,tuning etc .
So it was probable that a lot more cars were run to that in period .
But as Goodwood are listing the Saloon races as Gp1 ,& they have mentioned to
Triumph 2000 about not liking Minilites , it might be a good idea to check how strict they will be to the Gp 1 regulations .

According to the regs 8.1 "Wheels, wheel nuts and studs are unrestricted subject to: a) diameter and width must be as homologated; b) must fit directly on to the hub without any intermediary device; c) Wheel studs/bolts must be of steel and one piece; d) all four wheels must be of same diameter.

Looking into TR2000 competition history, I now know there were three Gp1 works cars in the 1966 Monte Carlo rally, the only time they were used according to the register info. The pic of FHP993C in 2007 shows it on Minilites- Sports I think- but most likely a later fitment as I think the alloy Sport wheel only came in during 70s?

If that was the year they started from a hotel car park at Heathrow airport, I was there. I had some photos once upon a time but sadly they don't survive...

But that surely means that wheel studs/bolts must be of steel, not wheels, studs, and bolts?

Correct. I think the words "wheels are unrestricted" may give us a clue. I'm running on Minilites which they ran occasionally in period because I can't get the Ronals which were the team's favoured wheel.

That would be logical as some manufacturers had Alloy wheels Homologated as standard production .
So Peter Mallett s Reg 8.1 does seem to say that , " as long as the size & fitting is correct to the Homologation ", then any other type [ EG Minilite ] should be allowed .

That's what I was getting at with the Dolomites, but obviously they were homologated with alloy wheels and so Minilites are ok. I guess the Triumph 2000 wasn't homologated with alloy wheels?
