That engine thing again (merged)
Possibly more interesting than the race (sorry,if you haven't seen it yet) were the statements issued by the GPMA,Renault and the FIA.
GPMAhttp://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=124423 Renault http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=124462 FIA http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=124501 P.S. The first sentence of the FIA item is quite funny if you have ever watched "Allo,Allo". Last edited by Marbot; 17 Jul 2006 at 01:19. |

Wait a minute. From next year we won't have tyre development. And looks like we won't have any engine development any more as well. So, only the aerodynamics will provide a chance to improve during the season...

Honda haven't spent £25 million on a new wind tunnel for nothing you know. And as we all know, aerodynamics,as far as road cars and motorsport are concerned,is the new Rock and Roll. |

In 2009 Aerodynamics will be regulated further allowing only 2 changes for the season.

This is retarded. I feel like I only watch F1 out of habbit these days. I don't particularly care anymore. Open wheel racing might as well be declared dead.
I gotta say it's a little sad for me. F1 is what drew me into motorsport to start with, and now it doesn't even interest me anymore. Each year I think; "Maybe they'll get it right next year." Only to have my hopes perrenially dashed by Max Mosely. Why won't he go away!? Now he has just dashed hopes for about the next four seasons in one fell swoop. Why can't he just ruin one season at a time like the good ole days. |

So, Formula 1 won't be the pennacle of motorracing any more by 2008. This might be the end of Formula 1 on the long term.
The regulation is introduced to 'help' the poor, small teams and engine manufacture(s). But at this moment the Cosworth engine can't last the required two race weekends. And this won't change, because any development is banned. So, no team would like to have Cosworth engines by 2008. |

The teams spend millions on motorhomes and travel and marketing etc yet Mad Max still wants them to save money on development. Drivers flit around in private choppers and jets etc yet mad max wants F1 to show its green credentials.
Mad Max's developments is in reverse and it's about time the old boy took his bus pass and headed to the old folks home |

The public are not dumb and with media hype Joe and Janet Public are well aware of the hidden costs and wastage.
Mad Max's drivel will not fool Joe or Janet and he is doing F1 no good. |

It's typical isn't it! We have upteen threads about which driver is going to which team in 2007.But nobody seems to give a **** about that big chunk of alloy sitting behind him.

We could very well be looking at three of the most boring, predictable seasons in recent memory. Spec tires, frozen engines and limited aero changes = if you suck at the beginning of the season, you suck all year!
Even with past Ferrari domination, there was hope that other teams could develop their car and catch up like Ferrari is doing this year. If this was 2007 Alonso would be WDC with no chance in hell of anyone else making a go of it. I'm sorry but this is what makes it exciting to me, technology, independence, and development. I can't believe that they are going to dumb down F1 to this level. With JPM going to NASCAR, JV going somewhere or home, and a MS retirement coming soon I think the old boy is really going to impact overall attendance in years to come with these ridiculous ideas. It will take F1 teams ten years to recoup all the money they have expended in the last few years in the name of cost reduction. Max seems hell-bent on killing this thing... |

FIA's cost-cutting freeze on engine development is to be enforced from this year's Chinese Grand Prix. That is a year and two races earlier than had originally been planned and represents a relaxation of the FIA's previous position that engines used in 2008 would revert to their specification on 1 June this year.
I must say that this is the worst possible news. I was really hoping the FIA would allow engine development until the end of next season as that would've helped teams that dont really have the edgy engine (like Honda, Toyota and even Mercedes). With this political decision, I foresee the status quo remaining like this for the next two years at least (until those new green-techno engines are introduced in 2009). Ferrari have the best engine right now so they should be on ecstacy. I guess Renault is a distant second. More Ferrari vs. Renault for the next 2 years. Lets hope Honda/Mclaren/Williams/Toyota catch up on chassis/aero so we can have multiple winners during the next few years What a shame.. |

I like the idea of the energy re-use thing. Moslety wrote about it in his F1 Racing column this month, and although it pains me to say it, it made a fair amount of sense.
Thing is, how can they guarantee that all the engines used for the next 2 years will be exactly the same as the the one submitted at the end of the year? Also, will this money actually be saved, or will it just be spent somewhere else? |
