Nice one, I raced a few of those names in the past and beat a lot of them on one occassion when I stood in for a mate who bottled it at the last moment, only problem he was a novice so I started at the front not at the back where I should have been, great write up in Motoring News I still have the cutting here somewhere as it was unusual for a Mini to beat cars like the Grimer Bros Escorts, only trouble is the write up uses my mates who bottled it's name and I never got a mention! BTW Rod I was at a meeting at Brands on the little loop and you wer there displaying a Sunbeam, what happened to that? I see the Barry Lee works supported ill fated Kadett in the video, he came to bovingdon once with that, not impressed at all.

Raced the Sunbeam for a little while, then sold it to a guy in Northern Ireland who went quite well with it. Bought a Mk.2 Ford Escort like everyone else and had a lot of fun.

Yeah that was the way to go, after I wrecked my new Mk 1 Escort on its debut after being posted by Andy Carter (laterly the world champion drag racer, just as well he found something he was good at!) I knocked it on the head for years.

The fence posts were pretty unforgiving. I raced mainly at Northampton (then called Brafield) and before that at Arena Essex. I did wreck a car in the ditch at Bovingdon, in fact I was hit after the chequered flag!!!

Are you coming over tomorrow Rod. Who put this in the programme ?
While in class A the Ford Cortina of Kate Bennington takes on the BMW 2002 of Bob Godbold/Anthony Matthews and the rapid Mini Cooper S of Harvey and Clive Death. However, the welcome return of local ace Gordon Streeter from Penshurst in what is widely regarded to be the fastest Ford Anglia in the world will up the ante considerably. |

Rod was that you spinning someone out. Haven't been to Northampton for years, last time was when I raced there in the Rebels.
I also saw Tony Roots on the video in a Capri, is that one of the same as in the Camso V8s ? Me and Tris were made very welcome a few weeks ago in Belgium. |

Thanks to the interest this video sparked I was given the opportunity to race Andy Pipe's Mk.1 Ford Escort today. Lots of fun, particulrly in the dry qualifying. Sadly it rained for the races, but the second one on slicks was a real hoot. Thanks Andy, and Nick for posting the video.
