Impressions from afar

well here in Australia we recieved coverage of round One of this years BTCC last night..and I must say I was impressed.

the Btcc cars look great and the production class provides some very entertaining racing.

I dont know what half of the cars are though but they do look good and their did seem to be a pretty big crowd there as well.

I have noticed that there is a member called "John B&Q" here at ten tenths and i noticed that there was a B&Q in the production class race..the question i have is what is B&Q ????

I like the idea that the BTCC cars have to make a pitstop during the feature race while the production cars dont..this gives them a slight chance of catching up allthough it is still pretty hard.

other questions i have are

since they race them both in one class in the feature race ...Is this the only points scoring race ???

and are the production class cars actually in line to win the BTCC title or are they just racing for class honors ??

I like the idea of standard parts which would help to keep the costs down.

and i love the look of Dave Pinkney's Alfa..(not that it looks like an Alfa to me )

anyway a very good event with plenty of potential and i cant wait to see round 2 ...whenever that will be i dont know...what round are you guys up to now ???...how far behind am I ???

CHEERS

Round 3 happens today, so you're not that far behind.

John B&Q is in fact the driver of one of the 2 B&Q liveried cars. B&Q is about the biggest and most well-knows DIY / hardware stores in the UK.

I'm ashamed to say I'm not yet 100% clued up on the points system, so perhaps someone like Redshoes could help out on that one

Redshoes can probably do better than me, but here goes!

To answer your question about the points - I believe they score points in both races.

The Prouction cars have there own championship. It does not matter if they are in between the Tourers - they have their own scoring as well.
EG I'll use this to demonstrate. If the cars finished in this order:-
Overall
1 BTC-Tourer
2 BTC-Tourer
3 BTC-Tourer
4 BTC-Tourer
5 BTC-Production
6 BTC-Production
7 BTC-Tourer
8 BTC-Production
etc, etc

then>>>
BTC-Touring finishing positions would look like:-
1 BTC-Tourer
2 BTC-Tourer
3 BTC-Tourer
4 BTC-Tourer
5 BTC-Tourer

and>>
BTC-Production finishing positions would look like:-
1 BTC-Production
2 BTC-Production
3 BTC-Production
etc
etc

The Alfa is quite a cute looking little car - that big rear wing helps it.

I hope that is clear, if not sentence me to death!

Hi Marcus!

As of the second round the two classes were combined for both races. However, the BTCT cars have to complete on more lap than the BTCP although they do start w/a 12 second head-start (this changes depending on the circuit).

Finally, you'll be glad to hear that there are many more BTCT cars participating and there are more to come. Thanks for the support as it shows that that the new-lookn BTCC is a success and will get better!

Aarrggghh, bloody pay tv!

Anyway, marcus, regarding your 'impressions from afar' I must agree with you. Being an Australian also, what little I have read/seen about the new look BTCC looks extermely promising. Once Vauxhall starts to get some competition should be great. There has been a fair bit of covearge of the BTCC in our local magazines. Most of us Aussies, are not, however, happy about the news that Matt Neal may be heading to Australia to race in the V8's, considering his efforts at at Bathurst last year.... See the thread entitled aaarrrggghh no! in the V8 Supercar forum for more!
