V8 Supercar/ Champcar Marriage Goes Global & Beyond! (Merged)

According to today's Sunday Mail plans are being drawn up to duplicate the V8 Supercar/Champcar meeting at the Gold Coast as a blueprint to drive the combination into other international markets. The story says that Long Beach maybe another dual event and other places looked at are Cape Town South Africa and in Asia. It also says that this marriage could start as early as 2009. It seems Craig Gore may be behind the move and that Tony Cochrane maybe asked to help set it up.

Is the Sunday Mail looked upon as a tabloid?

This is an interesting move that will see no IRL/Champ Car marriage any time soon.

From a V8 Supercar perspective, it raises more questions than it answers. It would be hard to do a joint venture at more than 2 or 3 rounds as NZ is one of the four international rounds.

This will be one to watch with interest, but if TC and Gorey are working together, it clearly has a solid chance!

A couple of other inteesting articles from the courier mail.

72% of fans going to indy for V8 Supercars from Mr Cochrane's research is impressive. That means more people go to indy to watch V8's than head to SA for the Clipsal 500.

It makes sense to form this sort of a partnership, something which should've started a couple of years ago.

Interesting in as much as they reckon the Townsville deal is stitched up already!

TSR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
It is an intresting story, but really I think that tacking the supertaxi's to the USA be a bad move, as F1 failed over there and F1 is bigger than the supertaxi's will ever be. Plus the yanks just love the NASCAR to much, and I can not see them tacking to the supertaxi's.

But time will tell, is it just another PR stunt by the Blac Wiggle.

A thread of Speedtv.com forums suggested (rumour) ChampCar was looking to join V8's as a double header for Bahrain.

Remember TC visiting the Assen champcar race of all places to talk with champcar officials.

Actually I think the V8's would be hit here. A lot of American fans are starting to hear of it now that Ambrose is racing in Nascar. The Pontiac G8 will be hitting dealers soon and the Orion Falcon is looking likely.

Well that's the least dopiest of all the "lets take V8's overseas" ideas.

F1 are openwheelers. V8Supercars are sedans and American are partial to sedan racing.

Except F1 is boring, processional racing, while the Supercars feature some good old, door-to-door racing.

Matt TSR is similar to the "I hate Taxicab racing", "NASCRAP" posters in the US.

In concrete junges like INDY, Clipsal, etc it is like a boxing match, so that most probably would follow in the US on their street circuits.

Door to door racing though, I mean for 2 of the 3 Gold coast races this weekend they followed each other and for the last one, they crashed into each other.

The merger will never happen anyways. They would never be able to get through the politics of such a venture

My take on this that Kalkoven who has been keeping CCWS afloat ,is about to bail out as his business ventures elsewhere are not going that well( he is facing a massive lawsuit in the US). Craig Gore and Cochrane will takeover the running of a merged organisation.

So who underwrites the CCWS or does it suddenly turn around into a profit making venture. Kalkoven is valued over $1b US Gore at approx $40M Aus.

From memory the yearly operating loses of CCWS would be a significant portion of Mr Gore accumulated wealth.

If Kalkvoen is bailing out it needs a miraculous turnaround or someone else with deep pockets.
