that might just happen if someone lends me about £250,000 or i win the lotto on wednesday, seriosuly it sounds amazing, the only car ive heard that sounds nicer in person is the acura honda engined acura ARX LMP2 cars apart from that it is the best sounding car by a fair margin.
now i wonder whata caparo T1 sounds like with a straight exhaust pipe |

Sounds quite good, but then again I suspect a lot of highly-tuned modern engines would be the same. They have the valve timing and high compression to produce a nice crisp noise. A few months back at a workshop I heard a Ford DOHC 32v 5.4L V8 with a set of custom tuned length 4-1 extractors - but they hadn't done the rest of the exhaust... the sound was spine tingling!

Agreed but.....
There's something about the sound of a V10 that just sets it apart from all others.. (Apart from the extra cylinders that is ) |

true, nothing sounds like a well done V10 engine on straight pipes that revs to a decent amount of RPM, high revving V10's sound amazing but not too many revs or you end up with the 3.0 litre F1 cars which sounded great but were too screamy.
i actrually wonder now whata buggati veyron would sound like with straight pipes, it would probably be that same kind of brutal growly bassy rumble that it makes and it sounds great, but aurally you cant beat that carrera GT, it sounds unbelievable, truly and utterly unbelieveable. |

im not sure which new lambo you are on about, must be the gallardo superleggera and it does have a very nice exhaust note and the BMW M5 does sound damn nice as well but i dont think they can hold a candle to the carrera GT's exhaust note especially with straight pipes.
as far as sounds go the best V10 engine ive ever heard is the GV5 5.0 JUDD V10 in the 2005 pescarolo and the judd GV4 4.0 JUDD V10 in the dallara and dome and courage LMP900 and LMP1 car's but of course now they are overshadowed by the carrera GT with straight pipes. what i wonder though is what the 6.2 V10 would have been like in the proposed porsche spyder which was supposed to race in 2000 onwards with a 6.0 version of the carrera GT's V10 in race trim, it would probably have sounded even nicer and even more angry than it does in the carrera GT, now there is food for thought. |

sounds rather nice that, but ive heard better V10's, its way too silenced, with more leanient silencers it would sound a lot meaner and louder!
but nonetheless that is a damn good noise! |

i wonder how powerful the engine is, it says at the top it is an arrows F1 V10 so its either a 3.5 V10 lump or a 3.0 V10, from the sounds of it it was a 3.5 V10 lump most likely hart or judd built i think. |

Its a 3ltr and hillclimb cars can run on straight pipes if period defined (i.e. if when they were originally raced they used straight pipes) |

People people, you've got it all wrong!!! (although the 1992 F1 V12's are really really cool).
The best sound comes from a V-twin: start finish sound: http://www.ducati.com/docs_eng/photo...i_straight.mp3 Warm up: http://www.ducati.com/docs_eng/downl...ici_warmup.mp3 Start: http://www.ducati.com/docs_eng/photo...dici_start.mp3 |
