The advantages/disadvantages of inboard braking systems?

Came across this site which details the whole concept, design and development of the DP1, a true mid engined, carbon fibre bodied, 4wd, mini-sized go-kart/racecar powered by a 2.8 litre Hayabusa derived Hartley V8, giving it a power/weight ratio of 970 hp/metric ton.

I love the overall concept, I was just very surprised at his choice to use an inboard braking system.. one brake disc for the front, and one for the rear.

All the disadvantages of limited cooling, reduced performance from having half the braking surface contact over a conventional outboard disc set-up at each of the 4 wheels... and the undesirable?? axle locking effect under braking. He mentioned something about its merits of not locking up the unloaded front wheel on turn-in but am I missing something? What further possible advantages can it offer other than a minimal saving in weight?

Edit- oops.. It seems there are brake discs for each wheel.. merely inboard... but still... why go with an inboard braking system?

I'd imagin the reason they are inboard is so that they can use a larger diameter disc than you could fit inside a 13" wheel.

Thanks for the replies,
hadnt thought about the rotor/disc size being limited by the small wheels, makes more sense now..

Have a look on youtube for dp cars. There is a video where he takes it for a run in a carpark , comes back and says the brakes aren't any good and he will have to atleast have two brakes on the front.
