1:18 917 models
As part of my Motorsport subscription I got an Eagle 1:18 917, (1970 Daytona winner). Nice but a little basic and crude. What I really want to collect over time are some of the more interesting 917 models, both winners of the big races and also different designs. I think Autoart are going to start offering the 1971 Le Mans Martini 917LH soon, but does anyone know what other 1:18 917 variants (if any) are available? I'm thinking of the early 69 cars, the one-off 917k bodywork for Spa, Pink Pig etc. Any links and ideas of prices would be much appreciated, also which models are a good standard and won't break the bank.
For such a popular and wonderful car it seems strange that the choice is limited mainly to different paint jobs on basic 917ks only. |

Sounds gorgeous, but at the wrong end of the market for me. I'm talking standard diecast 1:18s, my wife is only so tolerant!

I believe that Minichamps have done 1:18th scale models of the 917/20 'Pink Pig' and the Can-Am 917/30. I'm not sure how much they are though as I bought the 1:43 versions (not enough space!), which are pretty good.

There's a Pink Pig I've seen, the box itself makes engine sounds when opened. It would be top-end.
I've also seen the recent 917/30 with removable bodywork. Also top end. Not sure who made either of these, although I could find out. I believe there's a McQueen #20 Wyer-coloured car that's more in the casual collector's range. I think that's AutoArt. |

The 1/18 pink pig is between 80-100 pounds. Makes engine noises and pig noises (odd) and has a very nice display case.

Minichamps make the 917/30 and Pink Pig in 1.18 costing £79.99 each.
AutoArt make various 917Ks and will soon release the 917LH. They cost £49.99 Exoto also make the 917/30 which is VERY detailed. Its available in various versions and costs about £139. The 917/10 will be released by Exoto in the future. See the following:- www.autoartmodels.com www.exoto.com www.scale18.com Last edited by JAG; 5 Jul 2003 at 22:13. |

Birthdays are great. A joint pressie from mum and wife, (who are both convinced I have regressed to childhood), means I now have the Minichamps Pink Pig. And what a glorious model it is to, the level of detail is astonishing (seatbelt buckles!) and spot on. It looks just right and with the sound chip gives you a blast of that great flat 12 engine - as well as a pig snorting to start off!
Next up I think will be the Autoart 917LH Martini model. I want to concentrate on the sportscars more than the CanAm models. What I would really like is a 1:18 model of the Elford 917 from the 69 Le Mans, but I doubt that is likely to be produced. Anyway thanks for the input to my earlier request, a very happy punter here. |

Just saw this thread on the 'similar threads' feature and wondered how your collection was coming along, Allon?
