Lloyd at Indy 2009

Alex Lloyd is running in the Indy 500 again in 2009 in an association between Ganassi and Sam Schmidt, the team he won the Indy Pro series for in 2007.

He may as well not turn up, it is Danica's year.

Good news for Alex. He deserves a better shot at the overall series though, he has the pedigree to step up.

Much as I am happy for Alex to be returning he should be doing more than one run a year. Great as the job security may be at Ganassi he's not getting much out of it & this will be effectively his second full year out of racing. 1 race a year doesn't count as much of a racing career. It wouldn't be so bad if Ganassi just ran a 3rd car but instead they just dump him off on some other team that doesn't have the resources to give him a real chace to show what he can do. Sam Schmidt hasn't been a full-time Indy Car operation for many years now & good as they once were a top 10 finish would still exceed all expectations. I believe he can do much much better than he's being given the chance to do now.

IMO its like buying a new $1000000 supercar. You buy it then park it on your drive & never drive it but just look at it every now & then. COMPLETLY POINTLESS!!!!

I agree, but i guess you go to take what you can get in these times and there are plenty of drivers who have nothing on the cards. I am sure it's known that i am a friend of the family so a little bit biased and still hopeful that something will come through for him with Ganassi in the medium term.

Always,

Great quote in your signature line.

In these times, even Ganassi can't pull the sponsorship money to run everything he'd like to. So maybe the best case for your boy is that he gets alot of seat time and exposure, and gets a crack on bump day in a Ganassi T car if his main car isn't up to speed.

Lloyd deserves to be in the series full time not Indy once a year in a shared effort with another team.
Chip just let him go or race him.

The problem is if Chip lets him go, in these current times he will be going no where. If there was an offer on the table to loan him out etc i am sure Chip would be happy to do this. I suspect at least that he will be being paid, which is more than a lot of drivers in the series are, in fact a lot of drivers are paying to be in the series.

Also, he has at least driven in the 24 Hours of Daytona the past 2 years. However, he can't stick him in a full-time seat there because his second driver is bringing Telmex money and his "ringer" driver is Scott Pruett who is definitely one of the best.

Alex also drove in the 8 hr. race at Miller Motorsportspark in Utah to close out last season. The Dad of one of my football players works for Ganassi's Grand-Am team...

He's gonna be as embarrassed as when Timo Schieder drew the short straw at Opel in the DTM and had to drive around with 'Woman Magazine' all over his car.

How Pink do you want it?

The Vision guys or the Sam Schmidt guys have called him Pink Lloyd - took me ages to realise that was quite clever ... as long as he stays away from The Wall ...

That's a great nickname. I hope it sticks with him.

Although think about this. If he ever drove a pink car for Panther Racing, he'd be the Pink Panther.

Ed Carpenter's wife is expecting any day now as well....went into false labor last Sunday and didn't want to leave the track until she knew the fate of Ed's Vision teammate, Ryan Hunter-Reay...

Might just be two of them giving birth this Sunday...what are the odds of THAT happening?
