I can certainly see it happening, although it could depend on if they can’t get anyone else suitable at the time

He had success there. Went back after annoying McLaren and certainly dragged them to some better results. They look awful at the moment, I worry he is just opening himself up to some more pain.
But it’s a chance to drive an F1 car again. That has to be worth grabbing hold off. Maybe it encourages a bit more investment from Renault? |

At the moment there are loads of things fuel the rumour mill, but as said Not sure the mix of Renault and Alonso would actually make any difference to the championship, unless the team are willing to invest in making a competitive car.

If he stands by his previous utterances on returning to F1 it won't happen because Renault are never going to win and Alonso reckons he will only race a winning car. Why he thinks he is so entitled to that beats me but then I am a bit slow understanding self entitled drivers.

If he truly wants to just race other drivers he does not need a winning car to do that, Kimi R. is an example of just this. From the outside looking in Alonso has done an excellent job of squandering his talent, nearly as good as Chris Amon who was the world chmpion at making the wrong decisions that robbed him of winning races.

Not sure why wanting a race winning car makes him have the opinion that he is “entitled”. It is just a choice. He is in a lucky position that he can chose if he accepts any opportunity. Doesn’t mean he thinks he is entitled, just that he will chose what he feels worth it.
Crap F1 car or race other stuff (or sit on a deck chair on the beech). Chose other. Good F1 car or race other stuff. Chose F1 car. I drink beer, but I will only drink good beer. If someone offers be a Bud Light I won’t drink it. |

What other driver has repeatedly said in public that he wants a winning car before he will sign an F1 contract, if that is not an expectation of self entitlement what is it? Personally I think the whole idea of Alonso joining Renault is way out there because the team dynamic that exists is not going to work for him. He has recently had three years of a similar team and that did not end well. Only after he left did McLaren's fortunes begin to rise for a whole lot of well known reasons none of which are in dispute. He is obviously not flavour of the month with any of the teams because if he was he would be driving in F1, that much is obvious and to make it more obvious Liberty know he has a huge fan base and are trying anything to get hm back into a car. I think Liberty would break arms and legs if it got him into a car so to speak.

Saying you want a winning car and being self-entitled aren't necessarily the same thing.
Hey maybe he is, but I suspect he's got a pretty good take on where his standing is at the moment. |

he's a bit "goldilocks" for my liking, but it'd be good for the sport if he did come back, and enstone is absolutely the place you go when you're returning from a sabbatical.
we will be starting a "will fernando make it to the end of the season without throwing a massive strop" poll though |

I’ll be disappointed if he does get to the end Of the season without a strop.

Someone else of say, Hulkenberg's ilk.. not so much. Therein lies the difference between self-entitlement and not. |

Bummer, it looks like a deal is close to done, Liberty want him for the fan base he has and you can't blame them for that. I want seats at the first fight he has with Cyril, they both deserve each other. I suspect Alonso does not suffer fools well so it ought to be awesome year(s). I wonder if they will side line DR and he won't drive again for Renault, pay him out and give him the sand shoe out the door so to speak. It would be the sensible thing to do.

If Alonso does end up going to Renault, never mind a single episode, I think Netflix will be able to devote a whole series to the fireworks! It'll make fascinating viewing!

All of this does of course assume that Renault are still around in 2021.

It will be tough times, but most should survive. I am sure there will be enough teams on the grid next season, although there is a chance a team won’t make it
