Sick of Salo!!
"If Toyota could do it in Brazil, they can do it again in San Marino". And we call JPM arrogant. He is starting to git under my skin. I think it is because they are kicking a particular company's ass. Anyway lucky points does not a top six team make. Grrrr. I guess he is overlooking Sauber and Renault, going straight at the Mac's.
Then again he could have been misquoted Last edited by neilap; 10 Apr 2002 at 04:05. |

I don't think that's arrogant at all. I call it confidence in his own ability and his machinery. To score two points in only three races in a company's debut season would equal that sort of confidence.

Well, I am not a big fan of Salo myself - but that comment isn't really much neilap - no need to get mad at the bloke, surely not?

I'm sorry it appears that i've missed quoted Salo.
What he actually said was. "Anyone who drives a Honda is a Big Baboon." |

He IS an arrogant talentless SOB, but I fail to see how this comment reflects it.

Well.. He is certainly more talented than the second best driver in the world. Didn't he wipe the floor with Irv in only his second or third race with Ferrari?
Arrogant.. maybe.. talentless.. not |

That is just a part or his supposed statements. Here is the link http://www.planet-f1.com/news/articl...1/ENG?ref=9031 . He seems to feel that the points he got in Brazil was not luck. Toyota has done really good to finish at least one car in all of the races. Better than Maclaren, who is a "big hitter". However he feels he can fight one on one for points. I dont know where he gets this from.
Again apologies, Salo actually said. "Anyone who drives a Honda is a Big Baboon and likes Mens Bums." That is strange, coming from someone who names himself after some guy. I am just frustrated at the pace of the Honda teams. I have to admit it. Toyota is not that good either but at least they are there to collect the crumbs. |

He's not arrogant, I remember him predicting he would get a second row start for Oz 2002 a year ago!

Finishing races is amazing enough - to have scored twice so early in a debut season is a minor miracle for Toyota. In terms of exceeding expectations, Toyota are easily the best team in F1 at the moment (even if a little bit of luck came into it).
I can't see any arrogance in stating that their chances at Imola are similar to Interlagos - both tracks are supposed to favour Michelin rubber, both require good engine and general set-up. I don't think they will be lucky enough to get points again - but it's not at all inaccurate to state that they have a fair chance of it. I think they will go shopping for some better drivers if they carry on like this - ironic that a good showing might case the current two to lose their places, but that's F1. |

I agree about Salo is a bit ****** sometimes but he can honestly claim points finishes on merit because he is currently 12th in average grid (after the three first GPs) and race attrition is near 50%, thus he can aim to get something as a sixth position.
Attrition around 50% is not "luck", it's average attrition. Obviuosly he cannot hope to get points in EVERY race =:-o ,it would be arrogant indeed! Or he cannot expect a podium on merit. |

He needs to go back and speak to Anderson. He thinks the car is that good. No one else seems to think so. Hopefully this race makes him see where the car really is. I feel they are the 11th and 12th best cars on the grid. Now that is pretty good for a first year team. The next logical step is for them to be fighting Renault next year or Mac whichever is lower. I dont want to belittle them but Salo needs a reality check. They are going to be a force if they put their resources to good use but they are not that good right now and he does not seem to see this. What happened to this is a learning season. Arrogance is not much different from ignorance.
