Power Tour TV - They have to be joking, right?

I just made the mistake of watching a bit of Ch 10's Power Tour coverage from Oran Park - NASCAR's (or whatever they call them now...)

That has to be some of teh WORST camera work I have ever seen. 3 cameras around the track by the look of it...one long shot from the main straight as two cars head down the hill, about to overtake - so what do they do?

Back the shot off and pan to the leading two cars which are about 4-5 car lengths apart from each other and miss the other two dicing!

Spins caught half way through, or the start and then cut to something else.

And, when I first saw it, I thought the footage was 20-30 years old the colours are so out of whack with reality - that faded red look you see in old home movies...

Someone needs their areses kicking for the shots, the post production and the overall quality.

I've taped it and tried to watch it a few times but I just couldn't wear it. I found even the sound quality was sub par.

PROCAR moving to SBS has been a good thing but it looks like it's been at great expense to Powertour.

I like how the track looked blue, the dirt purple and any dust coming up was green.

Is this from last night's telecast ? I think I taped it I'll have to check it out. I have heaps of tapes I have to catch up on. This sounds pretty funny though if the colours are that out of whack.

10 cent telecast

The trucks, Nascars and Commodore Cup cars all look like fun to punt around but I do hope the Motorsport Promoters can find some more money for the vision

To be honest I think it needs more than that. The NASCAR's (what ARE they calling them now????) on last nights telecast appeared to only have about half a dozen cars - actually not far off - 8 (just checked the results for the races that weekend which, btw, was March 24...not bad - 7 week delay on televising it).

And, for the second year in a row, I notice that the Power Tour have scheduled a race meeting against a Victorian State Race Meeting (Calder/Sandown) in June although I have heard a whisper today that the Sandown round is being moved a week. Still doesn't excuse WHY the POwer Tour has to select dates which have usually already been allocated (like last year inNovember - except the Power Tour's argument was that they were a National Championship and had first pick of the date....pity they chose a date that had been used that weekend for the past TEN years by Island Magic....)

The Commodore Cup cars are the the only good thing on the program. Close racing with a bit of BIFFO.

The Motorsport Promoters Group will run events whenever they choose as they have always shown nothing more than arrogance towards any other party

Their last round, the day night meeting at Oran Park clashes wih the Bathurst 24 hour also, although to be fair the 24 hour was announced after.

I think you're being a bit harsh on the MPG - it's not easy to schedule 8 rounds, evenly spread to lessen the burden on competitors, and make it all fit amongst 10 or 12 V8 Supercar events, 8 PROCAR events, 5 Konica events plus the AGP, Bathurst etc. and then that's all subject to circuit availability.

Maybe sometimes they don't have any alternative than to 'drop' a round on top of a club-level meeting.

PROCAR seems to think it's OK to drop their 24-hour event on top of the Powertour Oran Park day-nighter (does anyone know if CAMS have actually approved it? The press release CAMS issued about it was very carefully worded and didn't actually say they were OK about it.)

Elwood - the MPG don't give a rats what meetings theirs clash with - as far as they are concerned, they are a National Championship and they come first - I still have the emails here telling me that.

This is not the first time they have clashed one of their events with a long standing race run on a particular weekend. Again - they don't care what damage they may do to officials morale and general well being.

However, I side with them in relation to the November clash - they WERE there first and ProCar are - in this instance - the usurpers

I watched about the first ten minutes of the Monday night coverage last night till I could watch no more. It honestly looked like watching an old mpg file on your desk top. I don't think I've ever seen such shonky vision on ANY TV program ever.
