Angouleme

I think that's how you spell it. It's a pretty town in the region of the Dordonge and has this thing called "Les Circuit des Ramparts" every year. But what's it all about?

Why do they have this event and what kicked it off in the first place?

A historic race meeting, with races for various classes.Comemorates the original Grand Prix de Ramparts last held around 1952.I have never been there but from TV coverage looks a fabulous place to visit.Scheduled this year for weekend of Sept 20.

Happens every year, recreating a prewar circuit, includes genuine racing and Demo runs, the latter don't need a license! Great fun but mickey mouse circuit no run off, very tight. Details can be found on www.racingcircuits.net

The event is on the middle weekend of September and there are pre and post war categories, this year there will even be Edwardians!

There is always a Bugatti race, a prewar race, and then whatever they can get a good grid of, ie 'Gentleman Racers. 'or whatever, a couple of years ago there was a great race of those hot 4wd old rally cars, won by a Metro6R4 driven by a Brit, with a wonderful Stratos trailing.... If you contact Acroca address on www.racingcircuits.net they will tell you, its a good spectating circuit too.
