TOCA Racer

Hi,
How realistic is the PS2 game?
I'm thinking of buying it, but won't if its no good.

Thoughts anyone?

It's very good! One of the best 'racing' games on PS2 with great handling and fantastic pack battles.

Take into account that Hakk would describe Senna as an 'o.k.' driver . IMO you can never 'complete' a racing game, even one with a story. Race Driver has a story but that his really just the surface. Beyhond that it has no end of tweakable options to set up some trully great races of your own.

If you're looking for the last word in all out, gritty realism, don't expect TOCA RD to really be what you're looking for. However, the actual racing element is enjoyable - plenty of panel bashing, tight tussles going into corners, etc.

Cheers guys! I rented ot out this morning and have been playing it loads!

One question though.
Where are all the smaller teams?
I was expecting to start in one of the 'little' teams, or as a privateer.

Buying a PS2 at the moment is well advised anyway - the games at the moment really are mind blowing.

buuuuuuuuuuut... if you're still holding on for the PC/Xbox versions, it could be worse. Ok, so March 2002 is a long way off, but for that, you're going to have much improved visuals (including 20 cars on screen), online play and 2002 data for some championships.

Damon: I described it as 'ok' because thats what it is.

The game is really far too easy and don't offer any real challenge.

Senna on the other hand, is a god and is deeply missed.

If you need a challenge try going into a free race, whip up the opposition AI to 110% with SIM code on and i'm not sure you will think the game is so easy.

Or were you just referring to the career mode?

I was only kidding with you Hakk! I agree that the career mode was too easy but it provided a good way of driving lots of cars on lots of circuits without being frustrated. As racer says, crank up the A.I. in a free race and then come and say this game is easy!

It is a good concept crippled by various design flaws. Appaling graphics, far too easy, blades of grass stopping your car dead in its tracks, basic handling characteristics, woeful storyline.......I could go on.
