Panther Runs Cosworth Test at Indy

The local ABC affiliate hee in Indy, WRTV-6, shot exclusive footage of Sam Hornish and Panther Racing testing the Cosworth engine at Indy yesterday...they had a quick shot as it warmed up on the south pit lane exit, followed by laps from their helicopter...

I'm assuming a gear head who lives by the track tipped the station off when they heard the engine running laps...

I also assume that the shooter got inside just long enough to get a little "on the ground footage" before security ran him off...it was a closed session...

No shots from the pit lane area or the car at what it would call racing speeds from the chopper...

I'll see what I can find out from others in town and post you on any test assessments....

Interesting that John Barnes of Panther said that their test would not be here, because Indy is too visible, but they held it here anyway...

Nice smokescreen....I'll bet HOnday and Toyota had people following the transporters from Pike's Peak to wherever it went from there, instead of being around at Indy to catch lap times from the golf course outside of the track....

Cat is out of the bag. According to the article Toyota and Honda do not appear to be obstacles. But internal GM approval and building up a dozen engines is more so.

It jumped out two days early...confirmed that it ran here at IMS on Tuesday...but of course, they would want to run it on a shorter circuit as well...

makes perfect sense...get the full scope of what it will do on both...

I presume no results of the test have been made public?

NO, of course, but i know what happened: the new engine showed typical youthness problems (electronics, misfiring etc) but proved way faster than Chevy (been told about 6 mph!)
The problem will regard how to give the customer teams en even treatment as , i presume, none of them will agree to give priority to Panther, and for Cosworth it's gonna be impssible to provide 20 engines altogehther.
We'll see, in any case it's interesting that there are some good news for porr chevy-powered cars/drivers

Word has it that Speedway Engines will be building and developing the Cosworth-Chevy, if the deal does get finalized....

Excellent engine builders.....they should be competitive quickly with the change...

It firstly depends on how production and delivery will be organised

That's the key...Speedway can't build engines if the blocks & parts don't exist....they can't work miracles...

i know it is a cosworth-ford comissioned design-but so long as Hornish puts a thorn in Ganassi and Penskes side its ok
