Mario Domingez at Mid Ohio
Did anyone else notice the shot of Mario Domingez as his car was slowing BEFORE he came to a stop? Why the HELL did he just slowly come to a stop ON the track, when he had all the time and room in the world to pull off the track next to the wall? He should be penalized and reprimanded for endangering the lives of the CART Simple Green Safety Team. It's as if he realized that his day was over and he completely disregarded the fact that there was still a race going on around him, being broadcast on live TV. What was he thinking? If CART had gone yellow it could have completely changed the outcome of the race, I'm glad they stayed green. I think Fernandez said it best when he said "Stupid Mario Domingez".

Welcome jjspierx! I beg to differ with you though. Mario cleverly rolled to a dead stop with a good portion of his car occupying the braking zone at the end of the fastest straight on the track. The track is very downhill at that point with a fairly hard right leading into Madness. Mario should have his head examined for there was no reason to leave the car exposed in such a dangerous position. The car should have been fairly easy to allow to roll to the infield fence much further back up the straight.
Why the powers-that-be at CART did not through a caution to remove him is beyond me as that is the one best chance area to do your passing in at Mid-Ohio in these cars. Apparently the stewards have a vested interest in proving the chaos theory. I fully agree with the penalty/reprimand idea. Last edited by JohnSSC; 12 Aug 2003 at 21:11. |

Maybe CART will put him on probation but only when his car fails on the turn 4 of the 72nd lap of a race.

HAHA...that took me a second to get what meant by that. I gotta say the CART officials have made some...uhh..interesting calls this year.

Yeah, total amatuer, I made mention of it in the other thread, "notes from Mid-Ohio". Didn't know if anyone else had noticed it, until now!

Exactly, what the hell is with the CART officials this year? No one says you have to be nice. If someone is being an idiot and ruining the racing and the series, slap them across the head and fix the problem. Dominguez's probation should apply to ANY behaviour. Mid-Ohio should have counted and he should have had disiplinary action.

That is the way it used to be with probationary things.
I really wonder about the CART "brain trust" here. Nowadays you have "provisional poles" "provisional probation," etc. Maybe they should call it "Situational Probation!" Tiago and Mario probably have a list taped to their steering wheel: "If there is a full moon, and it is a qualifying warm-up, you can..." |
