Best Place To Live

I was musing, as I am wont to, where the place to live in the UK would be to get the best access to all the major circuits.
I'm reckoning my location in Grantham is pretty good as Rockingham , Mallory Donington, Cadwell are no more than between 40 & 50 and even Snetteron and Silverstone are within easy reach...Croft is further but still pretty much straight up the A1 and even Brands doesn't seem to horrific a trek.
The only English tracks that seem a little daunting are Thruxton,Castle Combe (though I'm reckoning I could do that in a little under three hours) and Oulton.
Anywhere got any ideal places?

I'm 30 mins from Silverstone, 105 mins from Mallory or Donington.

1.5 hours to Brands, about three to Lydden, 2 to Snetterton, 3 to Oulton and 3.5 to Coombe and 4.5 to Pembrey.

Don't think there's anywhere in the UK where every circuit is convenient.

Somewhere on the M1 corridor, East midlands, is widely accepted to be the most 'central' area for the UK's circuits. Certainly all the major ones anyway.

Here in Tamworth's pretty handy:

20-odd miles from Donington & Mallory,

Rockingham, Silverstone & Oulton within an hour and a half, and even Brands was only a bit over 2hrs drive away.

From Birmingham it's 50 minutes to Mallory at Donington; 75 to Silverstone and Rockingham, 90 to Oulton and Combe, 150 to Thruxton and the rest are three hours-plus. Not a bad location though.

Northampton. Silverstone, Donington, Brands, Oulton, Snetterton, Mallory, all within two hours drive (traffic not withstanding ). Probably Thruxton and Castle Combe as well. They're certainly no more than three hours.

From the Eastern end of the A14 I usually allow the following times to get to a meeting....

Snetterton - 50 mins
Brands Hatch - 1hr 15 mins
Rockingham - 1hr 45 mins
Silverstone - 2hrs
Lydden - 2hrs
Donington - 2hrs 15mins

Gives me plenty to choose from for a day out!

right you guys, from just south of Leicester :

Mallory - 15 mins
Donington - 25 mins
Rockingham - 30 mins
Silvers - 45 mins

2 hours or under :
Cadwell, Oulton, Snett, CCombe, Thruxton, Brands (if you're lucky on M25)

3 or under
Croft, Lydden, Anglesey

Pembrey takes a little longer.
Only been to Knockhill once, it took too long to get there!

It's all very well living within a stones throw of Donington, Mallory, Cadwell etc., the problem with living in that area is, there are to many bl**dy northerners there
Give me the sarf any day

Essex ain't bad - for racing - c**p for living in - really love being an Essex girl - NOT!
This thread is great actually - because have had enough and thinking of moving but didn't know where for the racing - figured Essex was about the best as central for Silverstone, Snetterton, Rockingham, Brands, Lydden, Thruxton, Castle Combe and most others aren't horrendous.
Struggle a bit with Croft and Knockhill - but interesting options here. Something to think about

Well, I used to live in a village called Marston Moretaine, which is between Bedford and J13 of the m1. Silverstone 40 mins. Brands, Mallory and Donington - just over an hour. Thruxton, Oulton, Cadwell, Combe all about 2 hours. Knockhill about 5 hours. Really nice place to live too.

I now live on the north welsh borders which is only really convenient for Anglesey and Oulton. My ex home circuit, Silverstone, is now 2.5 hours away :-(.

Christine

I think Leicester is good:
Mallory 9 miles/12 minutes
Donington 19 miles/25 mins
Rockingham 33 miles /40 mins, or 2 hours if there's a race meeting on!!

Snapper, not all is well across the pond. I live 30 minutes from summit point. But the next closest track is about 4 hours (beaver run) followed by 7, VIR, and then most of them tend to be around twelve or more. (Thats just Road courses not including ovals)

But distance is all so relative isn't it...places that seem a long way away to us Limeys are considered just around the corner in the States....one thing that my three years in Chicago taught me was that abslutely nowhere in the UK is too far away (this is the guy that never made it to Indy or Road America while he was there...doh!!)

I've never seen so many good reasons for living in the south- and/or east-midlands. Pity it's such a dump though.

And as for Snapper Baz, if you'd rather be at a NASCAR race, wherever you are must be a total sh*thole!

Mathias, as you seemingly havnt been to school yet-you would have learnt there that Kent is known as the "Garden of England", you might also want to look up the word "Contradiction" as it's always handy to know what it means before you write!
