need help with GP3!

just bought a copy of GP3 and it's great but i don't seem to be able to change the function of buttons on the keyboard or change the view of the car whilst i'm driving. Do i have to pregress through the game to be allowed to do these things?

I always found that difficult myself - calibration too. But I haven't run GP3 for well over a year now, so I really can't remember much about it. It isn't even installed at the moment.

that's my other problem calibrating it for a gamepad, it'll only let me do it as a Joystick so i have to press up to accelerate.

I haven't played it in awhile either, but I do know you don't have to progress through levels to achieve certain things.
My one recommendation though, like with any game, is buy yourself a steering wheel. Makes the experience a ton better. It's a good game enjoy!
Here's a good site for GP3 and GP4 stuff.

The devil lives in Lymington? This is NEWS But seriously a steering wheel is much better than a joypad. So is the keyboard.

I've played GP 1 (remember that???), GP 2 and 3 all with keyboard, and perhaps it's just me but I've found the keyboard method really good and very accurate. Weird!

I played GP2 and GP3 with the keyboard and it was fairly easy to do that.
The wheel felt too strange with GP3.

Possibly the steering corrections didn't require a wheel. Downchanges with the sequential system over all three games under braking doesn't mean any loss of accuracy. Perhaps if skipping gears on downchanges could be achieved with wheel, pedals and stick then maybe it would be adavatageous but since most F1 cars circa '91 when GP1 came out were still H-pattern gear change, then no disrepancy with the good 'ol space bar can be found. After a short while it becomes pretty much second nature and depending on your calibration of keys, the controls are easily undr your fingers. A accelerate, Z brake < steer left, > steer right. Sapce bar gear change up/down, with throttle on/off.

Try the delete button to switch your views. It shows left/right of cockpit, left/right from rear facing, nose cone forwards at road view, head on shot back at driver, and track side view all including action replay over the previous 20 secs or so constantly updated. Is this the greatest racing game ever created and still getting better? I think so...

Hell's Bells! That's a very red rag to a forum full of GPL'ers Matt!

It's not the greatest racing game ever invented. Or perhaps it is - as a game. The greatest racing sim ever invented is the one and only Grand Prix Legends..

IMO.

Sorry guys, I'm with Mattracer, and with Geoff Crammond all the way. GP4 is my game of choice at the moment, though I do play GPL on occasion.

Aysedasi, you are right about the MOMO though, it's an absolute must to have a wheel (anyone who says otherwise has never used one), and this one is the best I've ever come accross.

kristof14 - maybe when you find the devil he'll be able to source you a MOMO, it's the only way to go.

Hey Buzzin, welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun here, although I wouldn't bad mouth GPL too much, a few people in here are a bit touchy about that .

Yeah, I figured that! Don't get me wrong, GPL is a good game, I just prefer the Grand Prix series - I don't have the time or the patience to get good at Legends, which is probably why it frustrates me.

Haha I see.

Aysedasi, I read on another thread that you origninally gave up GPL in frustration after a couple of months, before taking it up again - you put this down partly to the lack of internet access and so to being stuck with the original Papyrus cars/tracks/etc. Can anyone suggest a good place to find this sort of thing?

You never know, I may yet be converted...

I dunno anything about GP3 because I dont have it , but I tell ya Im pulling my hair out over GP4 , downloads and editors are impossible to understand.

thank goodness I still have GP2 with every download I want.

for easy understanding and editing GP2 kicks butt on everything else.

ive offically given up on GP4.

Don't worry - I found a bunch of sites that'll do the trick. When I get some time I'll install some new stuff and hopefully I'll get on better with Legends second time around...

marcus, you're right about GP2 being great for editing - GP3 was also good; I did more with that - was a lot of fun
