The 2001 Brazilian GP is running the risk of being cancelled as a result of a new tobacco law outlawing tobacco advertising.
The law is expected to be passed through congress in the coming weeks. In an interview with a Brazilian newspaper, the former president of the Brazilian Motorsport Council, Murillo Salles said: 'The future of the Brazilian GP is in the hands of the members of parliament. This is not a big problem for the federation. There are a lot of countries waiting to succeed Brazil. A decision like that would be very important at the next FIA meeting. The senate is supporting a move in that direction, but in the House there is some reluctance.' |

Going up in smoke. I read this yesterdday, and wondered how many others are going to be affected in the near future. It would seem that effirts are being made all over the world to ban tobacco advertising.

Actually, Brazil is a rather nice circuit, despite going the wrong way. Its a flowing circuit with no chicanes, and some blind turns. Certainly more interesting and of faster pace then the Hungary GP.
However, what it lacks is glamour at the circuit, and the circuit looks not classy enough like the Malaysian GP and Australia GP. Also, the back drop of the circuit is not exactly tantalising. |
