Chicagoland
hello everyone. Have been reading here for about three weeks, good stuff.
Anyway, I was planning on buying tickets to the Race at Chicagoland. would anyone recommend NOT sitting down low? I sat down low at Indy last year and enjoyed being closer to the cars. Especially since at Indy you can't see the whole track. Last year at Chicagoland, I sat about halfway up the grandstand and could see the whole track just fine. However, I felt like the cars where too far away. I emailed Chicagoland speeddway and they said that you could see the whole track from any seat! Is anyone familiar with the seating there? Should I avoid getting the low seats? (I think its row 1, start finish line) thanks |

I wouldn't go lower than row 10. It will be plenty close, and your view won't be obstructed by the wall.

I would agree...
Any track that also handles NASCAR races has a 48-inch high wall.... If you're too close, you may be able to see only the tops of the helmets as the cars go by.... My sister had seats in the South Short Chute at Indy in the 1st or 2nd row and that's all she saw for a number of years until her request for an upgrade higher in the stands went through... Enjoy the race....Chicagoland is a good, competitive track where they have run close and given good finishes... BTW, SevenGrain: I noticed that you're from Lexington, KY.... Are you going to the Belterra Casino Indy 300 on August 15th??? I'm taking my 19-year-old (a fellow gear head)to it.... I've already got my seats in Grandstand #4....but do you have any advice about the facility....parking....access....what not to do or bring???? I would appreciate it... Thanks! |

Tim,
I will be at the Kentucky Speedway next weekend. Grandstand four is a good vantage point, as all of the seating at Kentucky is rather fan-friendly. I will be watching the race either sweating in the pit lane, or in the air conditioned comfort of the media center. It depends on what is going down. Access is fine, as the track is right off of I-71, but allow yourself extra time as the traffic can back up on race day. |

Also, Tim, if you have a great cooler for races as I do, leave it home. Kentucky Speedway doesn't allow any coolers at all. Just have plenty of cash on hand if you plan on drinking beer. Have a great time, it is a very nice facility and often produces great racing.

How about a cooler in my Car????
I know that they don't let them in the track itself...but do they check you as you enter the parking area??? |

No, they don't check you in the parking area, but they do not allow you to exit and re-enter the track.

That's fine...I'll make sure that I am "quenched" before entering, so that I'll only have to buy a few beers inside....
Thanks!!! and my apologies to others for turning this into a "Kentucky Speedway" thread when the author had specific questions about Chicagoland... |
