Airnorth Joins V8Supercar...

From a team press release...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adelaide based V8 Supercar team, Team Dynamik, has joined forces with regional airline, Airnorth.

Airnorth have acquired Naming Right status to Car #44, driven by Simon Wills, commencing at the SKYCITY V8 Supercars at Hidden Valley, Darwin from 1-3 July 2005.

Airnorth is a member of the RegionalLink group, a national single branded Regional Airline Franchise network, delivering greater efficiencies and new business solutions to Franchisees and helping to ensure long term sustainability of vital regional airline services in Australia. Other members include the Adelaide-based regional carriers Airlines of South Australia and Emu Airways.

In announcing the sponsorship CEO of Airnorth, Michael Bridge said “Obviously we are delighted to be associated with an Adelaide-based team in Team Dynamik. South Australia is a crucial part of our business which through this relationship will only increase our brand awareness and services to regional South Australia on offer. It is also an added bonus to have Team Dynamik performing in our back yard this weekend where the local support will identify with the Airnorth livery on Car #44 and I am sure Simon Wills will bring the car home strongly.”

Team Dynamik Principal Kieran Wills echoed Michael Bridge’s comments saying: “As an Adelaide-based team we are delighted that an organisation with strong business ties in South Australia have come on board and we look forward to working with them in their efforts to gain brand awareness and increased sales.”

Airnorth is the major regional aviation operator in Northern Australia. Headquartered in Darwin the company operates 152 scheduled departures weekly, servicing eight destinations including Maningrida, Gove, Groote Eylandt, Kununurra (WA), Broome (WA), Dili (East Timor) and Kupang (Indonesia) and uplifting 132,250 passengers annually.

Airnorth has formed a corporate alliance with Qantas Airways which includes the hosting of all flights in the Amadeus system, inclusion in the QF Frequent Flyer Program, thru-fares & thru-check, joint marketing activities and participation in a joint training program with Qantas aircrew. This arrangement will soon include e-ticket facilities which will vastly improve Airnorth’s service to clients.

Airnorth are not newcomers to sponsorship. They are currently involved with Airnorth Ord Valley Muster, Darwin Symphony Orchestra, Northern Territory Rugby, Artback Indigenous Performing Arts, Young Achiever Awards and the NT Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Team Dynamik has shown strong improvement in recent rounds, particularly in Shanghai, China where in Race 3 Simon Wills was challenging strongly in the Top 10 before incurring a drive through penalty.

Team Dynamik Technical Director Oscar Fiorinotto said: “I am just delighted to welcome Airnorth and Michael on board as partners as our relationship goes back a long way. We are not far away from a podium finish and with a little luck, which we haven’t had to date, Simon can take the Airnorth car all the way in Darwin, which will be great for our new partners and the local fans.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I always find it refreshing that Mr Wills and co are not afraid to go searching in new markets for sponsorship and branding.

They have introduced more, different sponsors to the sport than most other teams, certainly not relying on pinching others' supporters, or indeed relying on the automotive industry to keep the team ticking along.

If only they could get some luck from somewhere....

Another naming rights sponsor through the revolving door.

Airnorth joins Cedel, Southern Cross, World Industries, Alphawest, Holy Grail, Roadships, Dodo and Boomerang . Not bad for a team that's only a few years old.....

This is great news for Team Dynamik. But why did the Boomerang not come back?

Your point being?? Name another team that has pitched to as many companies as these, as toe in the water exercises, with a view to something larger.

Boomerang is still on the car, as is Supaloc... and the other brands on the pic...

Can anyone else see the irony of Dynamik being funded by an airline? They don't operate out of Woomera do they?

My point is.....this sponsorship arrangement, like many before it, is released to the public as a naming rights arrangement. That, to me, is not a "toe in the water" deal. It connotes a degree of substance and permanancy which, in the case of similarly styled arrangements in the past, has not been forthcoming. As to why not, who knows.

Having said that, good luck to them.......I applaud their efforts in bringing a new sponsor to the sport and I hope this one is with them for a time to come.

So Dodo's nicked-off to the ARC with Mitsubishi. Probably figures it can get better coverage on the side of a rally car than it can on the side of a Supercar also-ran.

Jason,

This has been covered before, but here it is in black and white from the virgin blue site:

Quote:
High Risk Sports
As safety is our number one priority, we don’t provide sponsorship for high-risk sports. Therefore Virgin Blue does not engage in sponsorship for extreme or motor sports. Yes, we know our fearless Chairman, Richard Branson, is a bit of a dare devil and has had a few near misses in his hot-air ballooning days, but at Virgin Blue we prefer to err on the side of caution. So requests for sponsorship of high-risk activities including motorcycle, speed boat and car racing will be not supported.

There has been talk, that the boss of Team Dynamik is going to sell the license of car #44 soon. So in other words, NO TEAM DYNAMIK by next year. I think.

The Autobarn thing was a response to a major stuff up in strategy by the mob at Team Perkins...

The powder room boys have suggested that when Mr Davison couldnt run his Autobarn car in NZ, and Mr Dumbrell was obligated/contracted to run the Castrol car in NZ, the commitment to the sponsor had to be kept with a Supercar team.... and the Dynamik operation took on the branding (presumably for commercial rates) in order to not breach the contract with Autobarn.

Subsequent to that event came the announcement that Castrol wasnt returning to TPR in '06, so Mr Dumbrell seems to have run the #7 Autobarn car at the grid restricted events...

Very good of the Dynamik squad to help out another team with contractual difficulties.

I have heard that song over and over for a while now.... its starting to wear out... I need a new stylus...

.....what has me curious is why the motorsport press dont actually ask the bloke who owns the team what is happening in their future, instead of only reporting the intentions of a customer of that team....

I'd been meaning to ask for a while (admittedly on here, rather than going to Mr Wills as suggested!) whether the sale of #44 was yet fact or still rumour. Happy to believe the latter until someone can show evidence to the contrary
