billy bigtime has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Skaife to retire?

In todays AA it says that Skaifes retirement is looming. Whilst no time frame is mentioned, let's hope it's sooner rather than later. Nothing worse that an ex. champion on a downward slide hanging around making up the numbers.

Didnt Skaife look at retirement as a last ditch option to get Courtney to sign with HRT before he went with SBR.

I know this thread is supposed to be a flame bait about someone who isnt travelling too well at the moment....

... but in some ways I wonder if there is something to the problems Mr Skaife has had in recent years....

The #2 HRT car has not started a round of the series well this season... for all the prodigious power the team is supposed to have, Mr Skaife has fluffed so many starts it is ridiculous.

Quite wht Mr Kelly didnt start at Bathurst I am not sure.

The brake issue at Tasmania was another oddity... so was starting one of the races on the grass... or maybe Indy and missing a chicane or three....

Maybe the rhythm isnt right at the moment, or is indeed getting worse. Maybe the pressure of 3 cars of a similar spec to his is also starting to bite.

Bathurst not withstanding, Mr Skafe has had some really terrible self-induced incidents this year.

Yep admitted his only worthwhile win in a while-he drove sensibly and it paid off -now he should "give it away" on a high-

his start at Sandown was beyond the pale!!!!you do lose it as you get older-im speaking from experience LOL, he might just mess up more often with the occaisonal win -with the top equipment he has at his disposal(SP excepted )

But if anyone thinks the likes of Paul Dumbrell, Alex Davison etc. are actually faster than Skaife & Seton, you are mad. It's these seat wasters who should be out of the category.

Why would Skaife retire?

Winner of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Podium @ Sandown (same three teams as Bathurst).
Multiple race wins in 05' including Shanghai, new circuirt.
One round win away from equalling Peter Brocks all-time record.
Sitting in the top five of an extremely competitive series.
Hes not yet age 40....

It was Oran Park(not sandown)im gettin old like MS

his start there was a shocker
even he admitted it!!!
-he is approaching his 40s and things slow a bit compared to the
young guys like Tander ,Lowndes, R.Kelly they just react quicker!

Qualifying 11th at your home test track is NOT what you would call the mark of a driver on his game-he has spent more time off road (and doing brake pirouettes) lately than a rally driver
Sure he won Bathurst by driving sensibly and constrained-but the intensity of sprint rounds show his shortcomings!!!
He may not retire because he calls the shots-unless "Uncle Tom" pushes him for a younger quicker driver!...Setons gone at 40!

His incident with Ellery today was pretty ordinary for a driver of his experience. It was either deliberate or he has just lost it. Maybe the officials will look into it, but it was noted by Crompton at the time that Ellery was 'drilled'.
