2006 Infiniti Pro Series

Now that the prize money has been significantly increased, does anyone know if this has attracted more drivers, particularly from Europe, or are they all (like Tim Bridgeman is rumoured to be) thinking about Toyoyta Atlantic instead?

I believe it will be hard to attrack teams as the Atlantic Series have many people who put a cash down for tubs. When teams are already locked in one series it is hard to believe a driver can be in a series without a team. Will be interesting to follow the effects on each ladder series this year and watch IRL and Champ Car entries for 2007.

seems atlantic is the prefered option for the younger european drivers - road courses over ovals

hopefully the pro series can have 17 or 18 cars on the grid - not 10 or 11...

Does anyone know if Scot Mansell will be returning and doing a full season?

I think a lot of the people saying they're going to do Atlantic is a lot of talk. We'll see how many of their new cars actually show up at the first race. I expect a small increase in IPS participation next year ~18-20 at Indy and road courses and ~15-16 everywhere else.

because its essentially a new series and every time there's a new series a lot more people say they intend to race in it before they have the financing in place. However, the feel that the only way they can get the financing is by acting confident in their intention to race. If you were a sponsor, would you be more interested in a team that says they "might" or are "interested in" racing in a series or a team that says they are "definitely going to race"? As a team, they have to commit in theory to the idea that they're going to compete even if they're not really able to in order to even have a chance at competing.

Jamie Morrow (my son) from the UK will be testing with Sam Schmidt Motorsport later this month. He's fresh from a 6 race, 2 outright wins, 5 class wins, 5 fastest laps and 3 lap records run in the Thunder Arabia series, which runs on the Bahrain GP circuit. Should be interesting to see how he copes with an oval!!

I've been trying to get the money to do IPS this season as well as last season but have had no luck again and don't anytime lined up still. Going to keep trying as talked to several teams which was promising but again, all depends on money and you need a lot for IPS or Atlantics.

By a strange coincidence Jamie used to kart against Dan at Blackbush. The Morrow's turned up with a kart in the boot of a BMW, whereas the Wheldon's arrived in a motorhome with 15 trillion karts and engines. Needless to say, we came off worst!!

Wow. I've just been recently turned on to Indy and Infiniti - but if I were ever to race, this is where I'd want to race too. God's speed and safety to your son!

Well it'll be all the sweeter for you when you get there! I'm jealous of even as far as you've gotten to your dream! I can't wait to hear all about it when you report back that you're there!

Thanks OKeefe.

Getting to race in Indy Pro is the culmination of a huge amount of hard work on the part of Jamie, his management team and myself, as given Jamie is not blessed with 'rich parents', we're having to do it the hard way and scrap for every dime!!

Sounds then as though Jamie has the most important blessings of all - good supportive parents that teach morals and hard work - I think that's worth so much more than easy money in the grand scheme of things. That also makes this member one of your son's biggest fans already and makes me look forward, as I'm sure you do, to seeing that smile on his face when he makes it there - and knows he's worked hard for every bit of it and fully deserves it. Your son already has a fan in Canada - me! Please keep us posted!

okeefe - thanks, appreciated.. The next step is an oval test at the Homestead - Miami Speedway on the 4th March, after that official testing an on to the first race later in the month.

Thanks Okeefe, nice words there.

I'm most likely not going to be racing this season again. Nothing is coming together again and time is running out. I seem to spend all my spare time on the phone or in meetings with companies but its hard to tie people down. I'm having to do it all myself as I can't afford to pay a manager or anyone to help me, and not having a business brain, its a hard thing trying to convince a board of directors that stumping up part of a budget to go racing is viable. I'm sure if your business minded or someone can help you with it then it would be a bit easier but I'm on my lonesome at the minute. My parents are incrediably supportive as well but are self employed so time gets sucked up and I'm working 2 jobs as well as trying to find the money to race.

Harsh sport but worth it.

Andy, I wish I lived nearer to you - I would do everything I could to help in any way I could if I did. I'm here in Canada - and I'll still help if there's anything I can do. Maybe an article/interview for a site with which I'm affiliated about how hard you've worked thus far to get your name known here some in Canada? If it would help, I'd be honoured to help if I could.

No. 4 - for your son as well if he's interested in having his name splashed around Canada on a few sites I'm affiliated with, please let me know - I'd be honoured to try to try to arrange anything I could.
