V8Supercar make it into "AutoWeek" in US

A pretty comprehensive article, surprisingly from the US. Autoweek is the number one selling weekly general automotive magazine in the US.

What a great article. Tells you almost everything about the series. It might be a warmup for the off-season coverage of V8s that the U.S. get.

I thought it was very poorly written.

Really? I thought it was quite good. Gave a good idea of what the series is and about to the fans in the US who might not have heard of it before.

SkaifeHRT has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I also thought the article was surprisingly good. They gave a really good overview of our series, with only one or two minor errors, the main one being that they said Bathurst runs into darkness.

It is amazing really. How many years has CCWS(prior to that CART) seemed to be in denial giving the impression nothing else was racing at Surfers? It is not surprising as the NFL , NASCAR and Baseball seem to think they are the largest representatives of their type of sport on the planet. This article will open a few eyes in the US.

I think it was basically giving an overview of what the cars are, because probably almost all of the autoweek readership has never heard of v8 supercars before.

Or from my experience in the US you can add:Cricket; Rugby League; Netball, Rugby variants such as Sevens , Touch Rugby to name a few. Automotive competitons outside the US: FIA GT; BTCC; DTM; World Superbike; Speedway.
They are not that informed about regional sports in the US or Canada for that matter.

Notsoswift your living up to your Moniker. I said TYPE of Sport.
NFL thinks it is the most influential and largest FOOTBALL competition in the World(I guess they are talking in monetary terms)
NASCAR thinks it is the most influential and cashed up MOTORSPORT on the planet
Baseball thinks it is the most influential and cashed up STICK and BALL sport on the planet.

On the same token though anybody believing that CCWS is the support category is dreaming. Whoever wrote that article mustve had the misfortune of meeting with a rather intoxicated fan as they were also under the delusion F1 was held to a similar position with the V8's.

I disagree totally with what you said, but it is GREAT that an article like this had made it into a mainstream US Publication.

Translated, he was asserting that the “Indy” race—they’re not bound down there to respect Tony George’s claim to the name—would never have lasted the 16 years it has on the Gold Coast without the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series rolling into town to draw the real crowds.
I didnt think Mr Cochranes accent was that bad.

D.R.T. if you have nothing to contribute to the subject, you can at least rubbish V8Supercar.

I thought it wasn't bad either, probably a bit long for a basic introduction with too much detail in some areas (tech-oriented readers would lap it up though) and the "accent" stuff at the start really doesn't work with the written word.

Pretty good exposure for V8SC though

And yet I did contribute something.

Also Robert how is what I wrote a bagging? Those words quoted are highly similar to what Cohrane would normally spill out at the drop of his own hat

The article is having an impact:from a Message board:

remember watching it a couple of years ago and I really liked what I saw. It was interesting that even though they have the pushrod engine, they sounded like a single-seater car.

For the NASCAR fans that think a stock car race on a road course is boring, I'd suggest watching the Supercars race when they show the races on SPEED. You won't be disappointed.
