Its 'doin me ead in'
Come on you lot.
I've been reading all through the threads, Motorsport Participation Survey, Licence renewal, etc., etc.. And it all doom and gloom, its 'doin me ead in'... I know it costs us a fortune, for little or no recognition or payback or appreciation. But the time is fast approaching when we will be back out there doing what we all love. Racing!! My cars not in as many bits as it was a few weeks ago, the entry forms are coming through and its not so freezing in the garage any more....great. Coram, Paddock Hill, Island bend, are all beckoning. It is good isn't it, isn't it?? |

I tend to be one of those doom mongers and when the first entry for Donington came in at £265 I was going to switch the engine on in the garage and have a lay down by the exhaust.
But then I woke up and realised I am excited about the first race this year, want to be there so stuff the money, if racing doesn't get it my daughter will. So I may not be ding all I want to this year but I will enjoy it when I can get out. It's just these people in their big V8 TVRs driving off into the distance that depress me. |

I suspect you do on the moderns but us lot in historics don't need them. That said I believe you do need to run them in Germany.

Would make the Oldtimer Festival a bit thin on the ground, not to mention our own Legendary Circuits race..........

I tell you whats doing my 'ead in, the fact that organising clubs etc have no perception of the phrase 'Increases inline with inflation'.
Take the BARC as just one example and I am sure the others are all on the same bandwagon, memberships up from £85 to a whopping £105! What is that percentage wise? Its certainly way more than 3%. Entries up from £170 to what £185, second race concession up from £100 to £120, thats whats doing my head in infact so much I am really concidering not bothering anymore how ever much I love the sport as there is a limit and I may have better things to spend my hard earned and increasingly harder to hang on to in this day of hyper taxation, cash. |

Your kidding yourself if you believe that inflation is only 3%
Even if you use the Conservatives rigged formulae it comes out at over 4.5% Labour seem to have removed everything that they keep putting the price up on from the example 'basket' and added in a bunch of stuff that is currently deflating. Funny that. |

750MC have put the championship registration up to £75 from £50 for Formula Vee. Whilst it may be smaller numbers than some of you historic guys are talking about, it is a rise of 50%. According to Robin Knight from 750 the rise is instead of increasing entry fees and to help keep them down.

BARC SEC's entry fees are all under £200 this season and some of ours have actually gone down and you dont need to be a member of BARC to compete, just be a member of an MSA recognised club.

And if you happen to have a car parked in a residents parking bay consuming ZERO petrol, producing ZERO emmissions (unless you leave the engine running, just for a laugh) and causing ZERO congestion then you might as well do the world a favour and top yourself now. In an enviromentally friendly manner of course! And if something does start going right on the rebuild of my car I will probably be joining you. Who would have thought that changing EVERYTHING would have caused so many problems! |

I got my BARC renewal reminder through yesterday, and thought £105 was a lot more than I paid last year, although I couldn't remember what I actually had paid. That extra £20 might have just done them out of the first £85 - I won't be able to do the pre-93 round I wanted, as it requires BARC membership, but I suppose that will save me money too. As far as I know it is for visitors as well. But they have turned a blind eye before from what I've heard. Non German championships do not need a cat. Converter that is before some wise guy finds a way to make a fool out of me.... hold on, haven't I just done that myself? |

I know of some German people who have bought ceramic cats, knocked out the internals, and inserted the remains into the system

I recall a certain technician who worked for a well known Cambridgeshire engine and race car company doing just that.
As someone once said in this thread. Its what we do for fun so the cost shouldn't be a consideration. But as I haven't checked on the cost of BARC membership for years I'm glad someone has told me what it is now. So, a season of ten races will cost 1800.00 plus fuels and travel etc. My 1780.00 for 3 1/2 hours is starting to look like a bargain. |
