Ford/Jaguar looking hard at ACO
i just read this at www.lmsr.net
"off the record comment....Ford/Jaguar looking hard at ACO after F1 turmoil...2006 is possible GTP project...far from confirmed but in talks..."we have certainly noticed the growth in ALMS/LeMans attendance and the television packages. We are evaluating our racing options...Jaguar has a solid history in sportscar racing. It is our understanding that Sebring/LeMans now have the the reach of seven F1 rounds at 1/10 the cost."" i hope they do join the alms/lemans. it would be interesting to see what their design would look like and what their engine will be |

The sooner Jaguar get out of the F1 the better for me it is doing them no good IMO. Jaguar v Porsche v Audi in 2006 now that would be good........

The thing is the money Ford is spending on the Jaguar F1 project is still going to be in F1 after the name change. Thats all it is, a name change so don't expect Ford to all of a sudden break open the piggy bank for a new project....
If Ford was cancelling their F1 team completely then id be giddy about the chances of a new sportscar from Jag. |

They have cancelled their WRC program however (£15-£20m+ a year), and a large % of the funding for the F1 team is going to have to come from sponsors.

If Ford was smart they'd cancel the F1 program, and continue with WRC. Then add a two-pronged sportscar program with a prototype and GT/GTS program. They'd get WAY more bang for their buck.

I can't understand why axe the rally programme as they can (and do) sell on the rally cars
Actually now that I think of it that Mustang was nice, but as I have said before the more Manufacturers the better (as long they play by the rules) |

Much as I love my sports car racing, my first love is rallying. Ford pulling out of the WRC would be like Ferrari pulling out of F1. It just seems a no brainer to me.

of course running FORD F1 offers a sponsor package for the ford team where the jaguar was the brand name with little HSBC recognition
remmber Stewart did much better with the team, in results and budget- but it was The ford team the whole time. now the triple ford threat makes more marketing sense as tie ins with their existing line of cars is a no brainer- WRC- uh hello ford WRC has NEVER EVER been as popular as it is today. sure the Makkinen years but WRC now is breathtaking in its coverage and mass appeal- a little sportscar any one- Ferrari/Corvette-some saleen... even a GT program could be on the cheap with the Mustang, and a GTP...hmm a jaguar F1 with fenders and a body and two wide seating would probably be an easy one...beef it up a bit and could be a real winner. but dropping WRC another huge failure in the big manufacturer thinking...(and i love F1 but the WRC program just is sooooo easy and obvious to make everyone think the Focus kicks serious butt....) |

Ford are pulling the cash out of rallying to re-brand the jag team as Ford racing....
There's no Ford cash for sportscars...ask Aston Martin! JH |

I would like to see a Jaguar/Aston Martin assault on endurance racing, and I think it would suit the Jaguar brand better than F1. Don't forget Aston Martin already has the DBR9 coming into the Le Mans GTS category and a potential GT car in a new V8 engined sports car arriving next year. If only the funds were available.

Unfortunately I think this is just the natural (easy) rumour that comes from the current Ford story that is doing the rounds.
I yearn more than anything for Jaguar to return to Le Mans, but while it is possibly more likely now, this is a long way from anything that is certain. |

Maybe, however lets consider Ford and its planning for global motorsport. It doens't have a track record of having that much consideration...
I think it is more likely that Ford just didn't want to spend on the Aston project. Rather than it knew something more. |

How much sense does Mazda vs. Jaguar make for Ford Inc. in LMP1?
I doubt this Jaguar LMP "rumour" has any legs. |

Mazda is by all accounts going to be an LMP2 effort at least initially with the possibility of becoming an LMP1 effort by 06 or 07. So while I highly doubt anything will be done by Bill the Thrill at the Blue oval, it would allow Jaguar to compete without doing so against Mazda

Yes, the Mazda plans suggest LMP2 for 05' and LMP1 for 06'.
There is no way that we could a Jag until 06'. Plans change, but this doesn't currently make any sense and is more wishful thinking then anything else. |

Sorry for being pessimistic, but "history doesn't grant you victories". If they miserably failed at F1, why would they conquer sportscars, knowing the fact that Audi (who is commited fullt to it) is there (and could be joined by Porsche)? |

What I 've heard from Ford Europe is :
- F1 in 2005 will be under Ford name and the team is funded for 50% with Chinese money - No more WRC but maybe some European rallys - they're keen on participating in WTCC |
