To ask you people if you were impressed by Button on Sunday.
Having been blitzed with all the anti-JB and pro De la Rosa, Gene etc. stories, I thought it would be good to remember that Button started from the back of the grid. Like RB he benefitted from the safety car interludes, but he not only made up more places than anyone else, he out raced RS in that man's home GP! I think a little credit is due here for possibly the most impressive drive of the race. For comparison, De la Rosa only needed to maintain station. |

Hear, hear!
I thought it was interesting - and very telling - that the post race interview was all about stuffing the start, and Jenson wasn't asked or congratulated about his charge through the field, which was impressive, even if aided by circumstance and tactics. When the backlash starts, it really starts! You know what last Sunday reminded me of? Remember how John Watson used to make charges from the back his own specialist subject? In fact, the more I think about it, isn't there a lot of Wattie to young master Button? There's a certain tenacity going on here. When he finds that something is not working for him, he finds the solution. He doesn't try to drive through the problem like a Mansell or a Villeneuve or a Rindt, nor does he sit down and grizzle if the car is anything less than perfect, like a.... Well, I'll draw a veil over that one. Case in point, the BMW engine failures were being blamed on his technique, so he has been busily adjusting his technique to help himself, and the engine techs have been trying to meet him halfway. This is why I've got great hopes for his ultimate career. |

I think he's been driving well all year. If you look where Ralf was in his first season I think JB compares pretty well. He should develop into a proper front line contender, with a couple more years experience, and a works Renault underneath him, as he continues to show maturity beyond his years, and real pace.

Jenson drove a great race, as did Gene.
And I want Jenson to keep his Williams seat after Montoya's little Schumacher-esque display at Chicago... |

It was a fine performance-and as I have said more than once before, he deserves to be there.
What is particularly encouraging is that he will probably be out from under the evil Williams/Head influence next year before his career is completely trashed and his self-confidence is destroyed. As Renault improves, so will he. |
