Your Top 10 V8Supercar Races
What are your 10 favourite V8Supercar Championship races (not rounds) of this millenium (2000 – current)? Not necessarily the races with the best results from your point of view, but the races that had you on the edge of your seat, right down to the closing laps.
(Please don’t include any Bathursts, as they are all classics!) Anyway, here is my top 10 of the current millenium in order……….. - 2001 Queensland 500 - 2001 Clipsal 500 Race 1 - 2004 Hidden Valley Race 1 - 2002 Queensland 500 - 2003 VIP Main Event Race 2 - 2003 Sandown 500 - 2000 Phillip Island Race 2 - 2001 Pukekohe Race 1 - 2004 Winton 300 - 2001 GMC 400 Race 2 |

Don't think for a second we're ignoring you XR8.
I'm flat out remembering yesterdays race, let alone a round at Phillip Island 4 years ago... |

Here here!
I can remember being at some unbelieveable races for differing reasons, and some of them were Konica races too!! PI 2002, almost any Bathurst, yesterdays was right up there, some of the early V8 rounds at Lakeside. And the list goes on |

2001 Adelaide was very good in the closing stages, along with the rained filled QLD 500 in 2001.
Yesterdays race was also right up there with drama occurring nearly every lap |

I thought yesterdays race was pretty crappy there wasn't a great deal of real racing going on safety cars & cars sliding off don't really turn me on I want to see cars fighting it out on track with some good honest overtaking & seeing the best racers at the front rather then those who get luckiest with strategy.

Besnard vs Wakefield at Lakeside Konica in 2000 was an absolute blinder.

I remember that one, im surprised someone mentioned that - twas an absolute cracker.
Pity Besnard didn't bring the EL with him to the main game because he looked like the second coming that race. |

Race 1 at both Hidden Valley and Barbagallo 2004 were absolute crackers from all reports. Just a pitty we didn't get to see them on Channel #10!

Barbagello 2002, race 1. Once again it was a whole lot better if you were there so you could actually take it in!

As a race it probably doesn't rank with the ones listed above, but I think it was Race 2 at Pukekohe this year that Murf put a great car-on-car move on Ambrose at Turn 3, then a couple of laps later Ambrose got him back at the same corner with an absolute blinder.
Best example of two top-shelf drivers going hammer and tong and not taking each other or anyone else out that I can think of right now ... |

I'd nominate the 1999 Clipsal 500 race 2. Craig Lowndes had won the previous day but was penalised to rear of grid for clipping a backmarker as he lapped him. From rear of grid he tore through the field to win, an awesome performance.

The touring car round at Bathurst, I think it was Easter 1995, anyway just after Gregg Hansford was killed.
DJ & JB qualified 1 -2 , but the first row of the grid was left vacant in memory of Gregg & Don Watson, who was killed in the 1000 the previous year. DJ's rear wing broke at the chase whilst he was in the lead, Larry whacked his sump and left a trail of smoke for the rest of the race, (it reminded me of a steam train through the cutting). |

1. Bathurst 2003 (2nd place for Glenn)
2. Winton 2000 (Glenn's last race win and pole) 3. Bathurst 2001 (I was positive Glenn was going to win!) 4. Bathurst 1995 (I had just passed a Peter Jackson advertising hoarding outside a general store when I heard the news) 5. Bathurst 1998 (Great weekends for Terry Finnigan and Garry Willmington) 6. Oran Park 2002 (My first ATCC metting attended. Glenn should have had a top five in the round for those that recall the round) 7. Eastern Creek 1997 (Glenn's last round win) 8. Pukekohe 2003 (Glenn's refusal to let Marcos Ambrose past, and hearing Ambrose whinge about it in the press!) 9. Oran Park 1997 (Pressure-packed drive, and his second championship) 10. Phillip Island 1999 ( Battles with Skaife and Lowndes were a highlight) |
