2016 Four Hours of the Red Bull Ring
Thought I’d go ahead and post this a bit early as the entry list is out and there are some interesting developments. Entries by class:
P2: What was a 15-car field at Silverstone and 14-car field at Imola is down to 11 cars for the third round at the Red Bull Ring. The three cars that were at Imola that won’t be at the RBR are: #22 So24 by Lombard Ligier JSP2/Judd #28 Idec Sport Ligier JSP2/Judd #34 Race Performance Oreca 03R/Judd The absence of these three cars leaves the LMP2 field entirely Nissan-powered! P3: 19 cars this time, all Ligier JS P3 - Nissan. The Ave Riley’s homologation has been delayed, so it won’t race at the Red Bull Ring. Murphy won’t be running in LMP3 this race with some other car type as a temporary replacement, so we’re down a car versus Imola. GTE-AM: The same eight cars that were at Imola are scheduled to be at the RBR. The weekend’s complete schedule is available here. A shorter version with just ELMS events is here. |

And an update on the Murphy Prototype driver line: Karun Chandhok and Guglielmo Berlotti will be in the #48 LMP2 car for the Red Bull Ring in addition to Sean Doyle.
And on the Ave-Rile LMP3 car: Quote:

Also on another note, for one tententher who is in a similar (geographic) situation like myself ("Between Nordschleife and Österreichring") and plans to visit the WEC 6h, and will be at Zeltweg, and doesn't have a ticket for the Nuerburgring yet (or wants one more), I have a free whole weekend ticket to give away (bought two, ended up only needing one). Meet me at the track (PM me to claim, first come, first served) on Sat after the quali up to Sun shortly after the race to pick it up. Last edited by Ephaeton; 14 Jul 2016 at 23:21. |

I guess we know why So24 isn't at Red Bull Ring. Team has withdrawn from the Le Mans Series and has filed for the EU equivlant of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection per SC365.

As happened with other series, the track is ~2.5s faster this year. I think this will be a good race as the track is very racey and nice

This series is a perfect example of why we should have unified GT rules. 8 GTE cars.

There have been fewer cars in previous years ....
But I agree in principle, this haranguing between the various organisations isn't helping matters at all. |

That's what I mean, the GTE grid for this has never been as healthy as the LMP grid. I'd still replace GTE Am (in all series) with GT3 and keep the Am class, but with GT3 machines.

Bit silly taking so long to get the cars gapped properly.
Excellent start from van der Garde, jumping up to second and immediately on Buret's gearbox. Alex Brundle also moving well up the LMP3 field, as expected after the poor show in qualifying. Edit - Guido, this isn't single seater racing, you don't want to be clipping Gommendy when he's already past and the barriers are so close to the track! |

Speaking of feisty, the leading P2s might want to take it a bit easier in traffic! Last edited by J Jay; 17 Jul 2016 at 12:26. |

Pretty sure the Panis Barthez car jumped the start massively. He gapped the TDS car before the green lights were on.

Yeah but I was wrong on what the penalty was for. He crossed over the grid. It wasn't how far ahead he was, but crossing the track. Don't know if G Drive Did that, I didn't see.

Buret is a bit crazy. Matter of time till he has his accident, or penalty.
Also, this track is fantastic. It's brilliant after seeing nonsense like Paul Ricard, and things like Bahrain and China due later in the year. |

Might be a busy day in the #23 pit box, they've got to fix the front right headlight pronto.
Edit - Huge slide for Buret! Goes for a gap that isn't there trying to lap the #66 JMW into the last corner, side-slams Butcher, saves himself (thanks to the large runoff, otherwise that would have been a race-ending shunt) and rejoins in 4th. There must be damage as well. Last edited by J Jay; 17 Jul 2016 at 12:41. |
