semsec brands entry fee
Well what can I say. the semsec single seater series has just produced the entries for brands on the 22nd of april at a staggering £225. Now dont get me wrong but the entry fee for the 19th of march races are not that expensive, also if you just happen to have any sponsers what will they think of a race meeting on saturday afternoon with no spectators. It's funny how the barc can offer two races at a lower price even at lydden!!! I know the upkeep of brands is expensive but they are also running a print in the morning so why are these entries so high!!I was testing at brands for a whole day two weeks ago £260 with a garage and plenty of track time, maybe we should all go testing and get more laps for our money.

Steve, buy Motorsport News and read the excellent article - all about where the entry fee goes - by Matt James on pages 30 and 31. It is very informative.

Steve, what is stated qualifying duration and race distance / duration? Just so we can compare like with like. Mono race fees sometimes seem quite high but then we are often getting 20 minute races.

Race is 10 laps, practice duration isn't specified. That's pretty poor value isn't it? I know Brands is £££ to hire. The sprint in the morning is £145 which is around 50% more than the normally most expensive (Goodwood).
I'll be doing BARC-SEC events in preference to SEMSEC wherever possible - more races for less £££. Mike |

I was going to do this race, but I'll go testing instead now. Thought it would be nearer £150!

Its great to see club racers supporting a small club in the manner displayed here!!!!
Before "ye wh all protest too much" waffle on consider what is going in. 1 SEMSEC have put their money where their mouth is and booked the circuit- this is not lydden ( @ £7000 per day fee) but Brands and im guessing £10-14k rental fee add onto the track fee the other costs ( i have not seen the article in motorsport news but im sure it shows the extra costs of insurance marshalls ambulance MST time keepers etc) so blame the good Dr not SEMSEC!!! They are looking to cover their costs and form what i have heard make a LOSS with the BH events and need the sprint to balance the books up!! The LEAST you guys can do is enter the race they have effectively put on for the single seater cars- Nikki is only too happy to have another 20 odd sports& saloon cars racing instead as there are more clubby guys racing these cars.Im sure she could make a road saloon race that day instead of a SS race and fill the grid and balance the account sheets We have national 5-8 single seater c/ships in uk FR ClubF3 Mono F4 F VEE FF2000 and FF1600/zetec series plus numerous domestic c/ships and HSCC races with DBT classicF3 - its always the case we cannot get these guys to come and race at Lydden as they have their respective c/ships & they do not stray off ther campaign for fear of damaging their car or lack of budget to do other races Yes the BARC do a cheapy race series at stowe but frankly i would rather pay £225 to race at Brands than run at a clubby Stowe track for £150- it is after all the world famous Brands hatch SEMSEC DO A GOOD EVENT FPOR £150 AT LYDDEN!! so we get 2 events this year at Brands dont bleat about it support them or loose them!! As for the Brands club doing £100 entry fees what do u expect when they own the track-it could be construed as unfair competition!! Perhaps its them that should be boycotted and not the clubby cubs who after all where running races for 30 or more years for club guys through thick and thin paying the rental fees 2 SEMSEC put the SS race on to give a break for the sports saloon car racers as they can often do 2 races per day due to the rules 3 Regarding spectators and sponsors ( what is a sponsor anyway??) these events should be £1 etry so the man in the street can pp down for a few hours to see some racing not pay £12 or more that way we can have 4000 watching not 45!! Remember the Sun FREE DAYS? murder for the competitor to get from paddock to pit lane but great for the track- the shops who pay extortinate rents and "sponsors" who may feel some justification in spending their ££ with a race team Dont get me wrong i would rather pay £150 ish fee to race at Brands but im prepared to support the club who puts the event on for me to race my car and so should you guys!!! The test fee of £200 gives you 4x 20 min sessions at brands and represents better value for money but testing and racing are 2 different things If you wish to whinge perhaps direct the complaint to the Dr Aid the club and support them by putting your concerns to them directly and enter the races they put on or 1 day they will say sorry no SS cars enter so we have dropped the series Lydden had a terrible 2004 SS series but 05 had double figure grids and GOOD racing all it takes is a few more guys to turn up and race and make it fun for all so go ask yr racing buddies to come down and do some SEMSEC races and enter the Brands race |

I think we have to look at this hear, there were 17 formula ford cars at brands on sunday with an entry of 3100 for 2 races, although msv own the circiut and yes there overheads are no the same. We have to ask ourselves 17 cars for £100 how many for £225 and one race. this reply is not here to upset anyone but in order for club motorsport at our level to survive it needs to be realistic, as mr palmer must agree we all need to start somewhere as he did.I think the higher levels of motorsport should be helping the grass roots maybe.

There are over 200 race ready FFords in the UK so to get FF1600 race going at any track in the uk is not difficult but if u said ONLY 17 where at Brands that is bad-when i raced FF1600 in 93 it was FULL grids with reserves !!
MSV can do 2 races at £100 they own the track and can run as a loss leader other clubs need to wash their faces with track hire officals fees insurance etc hence the entry fees they charge In 1975 race entry was £6 & i remember as a boy my father moaning when it went upto £7 - if u compare the wages now and then cost of living etc racing was cheaper then. Its the race tracks that have hiked their rental fees up so dont blame the clubs aim for the track owners!!! Also many clubs are now proffessionals not amauters running races BARC BRSCC are full time workers SEMSEC are evening/weekend amauters Remember Marshalls are also volunteers who often do the task as a way of being involved with racing to either see racing for free in exchange for standing in the wind n rain or becauise they dont know anyone racing a car they can assist Many of the smaller clubs like BMRMC 8 clubs who used to run a silverstone or brands early spring Non championship race or sprint now cant afford to run the events due to the bully boy tactics of circuit owners & fees or the larger clubs want their dates With track days becoming popular the race tracks dont need us racers they can get their daily fees from clubs running caterhams escorts 911 cars and with no agro !!! Yes these track owners forget it is the stalwart racers who have raced for years paying the track fees that have put them where they are now The good Dr is after all a business man 1st and a retired race driver 2nd so he will not be too lenient when it comes to rental fees I can remember when he raced an Marcos modsport car with knackerd wheel bearings & never had 2 pennies to rub together and was at medical training college as well- but his memory is not as good as it was and he cant remember what it was like to be a club racer!! Dont knock the clubs complain to the circuit owners and support the smaller clubs pay the fee enter the races if they know they can get full grid they can drop the entry fee a few quid 28 carsx £225= £6300 im sure if they knew they can get 20 cars they can drop the fee a little! 1 series has to either subsidise another series or the low grid formula has to have higher entry fees to pay for the track time it really is simple maths Imagine the taxi with its meter running outside your house if your not ready to go it cost you money- its the same with track fee Clubs need 8 races all with 20 car grids to break even but as you know some grids are full and other sub 20 car grids Support the SEMSEC single seater series by entering the race |
