Whats the chances that it will blow up or break or something (not pass the crash test) and it will never race?

Well, McLaren are doing all they can, I'm sure Mercedes are doing the same.

As k-b has said it has already passed the crash test.
Also a whole new installation could aid engine reliability. It is good that it'll be out at Silvertsone, especially for those 10-10thser that are going. Pack your cameras you lot |

The 'too much too soon' current car has compromised the engine design too much obviously-or more likely, the current engine is also had it's development pushed way to far with cripling consequences |

Once again, i put faith in Mclaren that they've managed to overcome the problem and i believe the new car would be up to it.
Seriously, i can't see Mclaren making 3 lousy cars in a row. Looking at the speed at which the new car is being pushed out, either Mclaren took a step back from their current 19 to make it far more reliable, or the new car would actually be an interim next year's car (!!) accelerated to production (Mclaren has a dual design system similar to Renault/Toyota, ya?) In any case, i'm sure they know where exactly the problem is by now and won't repeat the mistakes again. Mclaren and Mercedes won't want to be embarrassed again. |

i assume by added reliability they mean that it will only blow up once every second race rather than every race.
I bet Montoya will be watching the testing a little closer than many other people. dave |

After the European GP, there's maximum need for a significant improvement.

I'd like to think that this car is the answer to all of McLaren's problems, but the simple truth is that they have been on the decline again since 98.

Well I guess I may see the "new" car at Silverstone on Wednesday. Having said that, they're starting testing tomorrow, so presumably it'll be broke by the time I get there...

Looks interesting - very curvy around the sidepods in the Ferrari mould. Radiator inlets look even smaller than before, surprisingly. I guess we can assume that the engine block is all new too, not that they would ever admit that there was the slightest thing amiss with their engines!
Pic pinched from Autosport, and tweaked: |

One of Ron Dennis' great strengths over the years has been never publicly blaming the engine builder for problems.
When Honda switched from V10 to V12, gained weight but no extra power, you never heard anything negative from McLaren. Similarly, Ron took a lot of "electrical problems" on the chin to save face for Peugeot and now you'd never hear him criticise Mercedes. A good way to handle things - with class. And that new car looks great. |
