Endurance Racing in the UK
How many of you out there are involved in Endurance Racing in the UK? I currently race in the EERC Britcar and think this is the best value for money motorsport out there, if you can call motorsport good value? What other series is out there?

Wyzard,
I also race in the Britcar series, Fiesta 1800, and agree with you that it's very good value for money. For a multi-class series, the driving is generally of a very high standard and contact is rarely an issue (OK, there was quite a bigun at the Willhire). I'm not sure there are any other "regular" endurance series in the UK but the Radicals run some longish races from time to time and of course the 2CVs (inc the recent 24hr one at Snetterton). Looking a little higher up ther ladder (in terms of cost at least) is the British GT series which does run some longer races. Maxx |

Welcome Ben !
The Jaguar Car Club meetings that we often race with seem to have some longish races. |

I was chatting with friend this week, he races normal "clubbie" 10 lappers, he done a double head meeting at Snetterton recently and spent more money than i did at the Willhire, just to get 20 laps racing in a saloon car...............give me the EERC anytime, much better value.

How many of the Britcar drivers actually know each other ?
I take it for granted, because my reason for being there is to circulate and be a nuisance, that you are all acquainted, but since you're all getting on with your own business, this is probably not the case. On another note, I've heard that our very own Liz Halliday is close to getting a drive in Martin Short's Mosler at the Spa 24 hours. |

endurance racing is definately the way forward. I currently do historic endurance racing. Apart from the value aspect it is a great leveller. The short races come down to who can afford the fastest car but the endurance race gives us slower cars more chance of getting decent results! This is especially true in historic GT and Sportscars where speed/value differential can be quite large!

Simon,
Good point, we raced in the Willhire 500 too and managed a creditable 10 overall, out of 28 starters I think. We were one of the slowest cars on the grid but goes to show consistency does pay off in the end. We also had misfortune at the beginning of the race and stopped for around 30 minutes which meant our finish was all that more important! |

There are also the Uniroyal Beetles - which seem like good value for money, but I have absolutely no information to back that up
Any ideas? |

I did last years Willhire with Pete and all the remaining EERC races, Silv/Brands/Croft and the first Silv race this year. I'm not sure if Pete is doing the 4hr race yet, plus I may be working but if he IS and I'm NOT then I'll definitely be there. Snet feels like home right now after doing over 300 laps in a 2CV 3 weeks ago and a further 180 in a Fiesta last week. I spoke to James (Tucker) after the Willhire and the Snet round is definitely 4hrs but I'm not sure of the timings. It supposed to be over 2 days so maybe Qual Saturday and Race Sunday. 10-Tenths member knowing each other? Well, I regularly bump into Les who is perhaps Steve's staunchest supporter. I've never actually met Steve in previous rounds, or Martin P. I mostly run with Pete Daniels Motorsport who bring at least 2 cars to each meeting (3 to Willhire) and we drivers also tend to help out as fire-marshals, fuellers, pitcrew and general gophers so time goes by pretty quickly. Malcolm, you do know me, I compiled the Britcar driver profiles.
Not sure who Les is, but if he's my staunchest supporter, he can by me a drink next time. I don't get around to see enough people, since my race reports, by necessity for the site they're published on, have to concentrate on GT cars and ex-GT drivers, but I try to make sure that every team get a positive mention at least once in a season. I thought the next Snetterton meeting was just the Saturday, or at least I hoped it was, because I'm due to be doing another meeting on the Sunday. |

August 2nd, Jason, so I imagine you'll be at the Rock all weekend.
I suppose the Steve Wood that Les staunchly supports is the Golf guy. We are known to each other. Aside from the racing, there are a thousand stories to be told about Britcar folk - unusual pastimes, funny incidents, tragedy, comedy, hopes, fears, laughter, tears, and I'd love to find an outlet for all this. Features on teams, drivers, etc, even officials. Would anybody be interested in reading this sort of stuff, and where could it be posted ? |

post it here of course!
And yes 'my' Steve is the Golf guy Jason - I know a lot of suits have the names on their belts but you try looking at a screwed up belt whilst trying not to look as if you are staring at their groins |

Bsr,
Pop along to the Britcar/EERC website here : http://www.eerc.co.uk and jot down the telephone number for James Tucker, the organiser (he also posts here from time to time) and give him a call. There are some general regs posted on the website but I know he is keen to provide variety in the series and a quick call should answer your question. Maxx |

Bsr, I would imagine you run your Stealth in the Combe GT series at the moment. We've got a Darrian which runs in Britcar, which to me is of a similar ilk. Like Maxx says, James Tucker is the man to talk to.
