BMW 6 series
I don't want to start another thread on the 'other' BMW but just to let you know that the six series homologation for GT1 has been approved see:

What "other" BMW? Anyway, would be nice to see the the BMW 6 series race, looks more of a GT2 car IMO than a GT1 but hey its homlogated for GT1 so who am I to argue.

The FIA also agreed to introduce an invitation class to FIA GT as seen at the Spa 24hrs.
This is an open invitation for BMW to enter the M3 GTR! Any unhomologated car can enter. BTW I'm sure Le Mans also allows unhomolgated cars as long as they do not lap quicker than 3.55 (GT1). Could be interesting. |

Me wonder that they enter Things like the M3 or the 6-series instead of the Z8 - that was intended by the engineers at BMW as a Porsche-opponent.
Who was driver of that GT1-Homologation? BMW itself? Or just Ratel? Or is there a private company gearing up with the construction of such a chassis? |

I´m sure that only the manufacturer can homologate a car.

I know that Tuner or teams can order a "Wagenpass" (don´t know the english word for the document of the national asn) to run the car in championships. But to homologate a car in the FIA list you must be a car manufacturer.... Or i´m wrong. If i´m wrong i´m glad to hear more than "Not true." |

Anyway we now have the 6 series to talk about P.S @ panoz the wagenpass is probably just a local holomogation from the ASN in question, Germany? bf1 |

well now that the 6 series is hologated all we need to do is wait for BMW to develop a racing M6. will be son cool to here it's screaming 5 liter V10 fly by against the 6 liter V12's of the maserati, aston martin, ferraris and lambos, and the 7 liter rumbling V8's of the vettes and saleens. on another interesting note i was reading the latest Road and TRack Mag and there i saw from piictures at a car show a new Viper Coupe for teh road. i find this interesting as do recall the last time Chrylser introduced a coupe version of teh previous viper. last time they introduced a coupe they made a race car out of it. could this lead the way for a new generation viper GT1 car, only time will tell and i do hope they make it

deja vu for sure. I hope Bmw will not do the m3 gtr thing all over again or go the masarati road. Nevertheless can't wait to see them race!

Indeed, would be a huge shame to see BMW go down the same road with the M6 as they did with the M3, lets hope they have learned from their mistakes a couple of years ago..

I too am looking forward to the sweet noise which this new beemer with it's V10 will produce. There's a great vid at streetfire where you see and hear a Carrera GT with open exhausts wailing like a LM car.... |

well i know about the GT3 spec cars of the new vipers but those are competitions coupes which debuted at the end of 2003 in the speed world challenge gt series. i was talking about chrysler making a GT1 spec car. in my opinion that would help with marketing the viper or srt-10 in europe. nothing says better car then saying u beat the vettes and aston martins in a head to head to head battle. plus it would make some really good racing action.

M6 Gtr
One of the posts mentioned that the 6 series was homologated. I looked on the FIA site and there is no sign of it as being so mainly 3 series cars that are homologated? Am i looking in the wrong place?
It doesnt look like we will be seeing an M6 GTR from BMW in 2007!!!!! |

I had expected and preferred homologation for GT2 (to offer Porsche some resistance).

yeah but the road M6 itself should be a good starting point. a 5 liter V10 is a good starting point and can always be enlarged like the V12's in the 550's were and the V8's in the vettes. the main problem with the 3.2 straight 6 in the road M3's was that it didn't have enough low end torque and they used teh same size air restrictor as the 3.6 liter flat 6 in the porsches. may not seem like much but the extra .4 liters helped the porsche in teh torque department. also BMW said the 3.2 straight 6 couldn't be enlarged anymore. but the M6 has a brand new V10 so i'm sure they don't need to make a special engine like a V12 or anything. also the 6 series is quite aerodynamic. to tell u something freaky. back when i saw the concept for M6 i said, "now that would make a good GTS car" i was already imagining it in race trim in PTG colors racing head to head against the saleens, vettes, and ferraris.
