Speed... thats what I need... greased lightning...

VESA signs with Fox/Speed

- 79 million subscribers
- Commitment to show each VESA event a week after its running

Its a big increase in potential eyeballs!

I wonder what that's worth to VESA?

Very exciting news for the category....I'd love to see our guys race Watkins and Laguna Seca (pet favourite track on many video games).

Would this mean we could potentially see a few more cars and also some international sponsors?

Will be the shortest contract in history (Even shorter than the R35 Safety cars).

The second the Americans see out qualifying telecast, they'll be ready to switch off. Then when the race starts, it'll be bye bye.

How does selling a TV package to the Septics lead to racing at Watkins Glen? I don't see the Americans sticking their hands in their pockets to bring our show over in the flesh.

And now that stupid bloody song is in my head. THANKS A LOT, GTR Magic.

Still, good news I guess.

How about a prime time replay during the week after an event on Fox Sport here in Australia for those of us who are usually busy on the weekends

A legacy of watching too many F1 broadcasts!

The new signing is good news... quite how it helps local sponsors with local brands is not too clear. Not too many SuperCheap Autos in the deep south...

It is good news... for the teams... if they get more $$ and can improve the show with those $$ then all is well!

I doubt it's any massive sum of money trading hands, however since you've already run the races and made the broadcasts, it's like reruns of TV shows, it's all money in the bank for little effort.

No they'd probably go what the heck is a SuperCheap Auto, a car dealer or somethin'?

It wont be any help to local sponsors as much as it's a ready made product in the can you are selling for $$$. And there might be some Australian brands that wouldn't mind US and Canadian exposure for their products.

Looks like the Ford Crown Vic will be replaced with the Ford Falcon after all and Chevy is bringing in the Holden Statesman as the new cop car it's selling so both models are likely to be on dealer forecourts in the USA by 2012.

It's not a far enough reach to see where this might be heading.

Really that sounds good.

Hopefully the Aussies can keep designing it (or at least 50/50 with the yanks), and they keep the straight six. Ford America products seem to be improving and nice looking rather than blander than a paper company sales pitch like a few years back, but it will be good to keep local input in designing the mighty Falcon.

The FOX Sports Chairman, David Hill was out here for Bathurst and the Gold Coast events I believe and was very impressed.

Having watched the WTCC racing on the weekend then it's easy to see why he would be as the WTCC was as boring as you know what.

We have a great package here with our v8 supercars but unfortunately we have a few too many knockers.

And no pecky hasn't hijacked my account...

Ford made the decision to dump the Crown Vic earlier this year. It's a 20 year old car with few changes and much of the underpinnings date back to the 1970's. Seemed silly for Ford to keep making it when they had a decent RWD platform from down under.

Especially since Chevy has made a bold decision to go with the Commodore as the new cop car in the USA and Ford owns most of that market they have been left with no choice but to respond. Some have said it might be based on the Ford Taurus but I heard through some fleet purchasers that it will in fact be a Ford Falcon based car built here in North America. We'll know for sure in about two months.

If some of the teams that have some lead-way and are smart they could look for a sponsor in the deep south that sells a product or service in both USA and Australia.Maybe Lowe's hardware could be a start i believe they are opening here soon.First time viewing on Speed would be a win win for both parties as the number viewers would be high.

Cheers

isn't that opening as something else though, or continuing to operate as Danks? or Woolies even? IIRC it isn't Lowe's branded

I agree with you, I mean look at some of the NASCAR sponsors, from the names on the sides of the cars, and when you look them up on google, you figure they havent got enough money to sponsor a team.. but they do...

Scale is an amazing thing

Its great to see VESA expanding into new markets for its broadcast

The challenge is to make the show more entertaining, and better for the fans. That the broadcast doesnt run live means it can be repackaged, reordered and ticked to improve dramatic impact...

V8's was the #1 most requested motor sport on Speed for a long time.

You'd be surprised how many fans are over here and aware of it. It's not known by the general public, but quite a few of the motor racing fans are well into it.

Who knows it might be the angle to race over here in the USA.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
is that a self asked question stealthy? just reading this thread and there is only one complaint

I wonder if there is any money in this for V8SA or if they are paying some money to make it happen?

either way its potentially good news, and opens the door for some other sponsors to possibly hope on board, depending on how it rates
