Impressive qualifying by Trevor Bayne. Good speed shown by Marcos Ambrose - love the new paint job...

Just learned I won't get to see the Duels. Thursday evening will feel so empty now

As for Bayne, it might just have been qualifying at a plate track, which really doesn't mean that much, but still, he just keeps doing what he's been doing since last year - impress me a lot.

Elliott in the same car last year got 3rd as well.

Still, it's nice to see the Wood Brothers are going to try and develop a guy.

Practice starts 10:40am ET (16:40 CET). Will be interesting to hear what the drivers and teams think of the new changes.

Practice has been delayed by rain earlier. Plate size has been reduced for the rest of Speedweeks.

Sigh, I wish they had waited at least until after practice.

Fingers crossed NASCAR isn't fast-tracking us to another parade-o-rama like the one we saw at Talladega a while back after the repave there.

I'm getting ready to agree with you now.
I'm tellin you, their thought process is unrecognizable, and scrambling less than a week away from their biggest event just doesn't make ANY sense; they are really rolling the dice and hoping they don't get snake eyes.

Yeah I'm actually starting to get a tad worried.

In other news Junior wrecked his pole winning car during practice today and will thus have to start his Duel, and the 500, from the back. Dangit.

Edit - video of the wreck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yvCSamHpO4&

No duel coverage in the UK it seems.

Got my Premier Sports subscription sorted anyhow, even though I work Sunday's and will have to record every race.

Duel #1 under way...

And caution #1 already. Newman "bumped" by Stewart coming off of 2 and goes 'round.

Who wants spoilers?

#22 Kurt Busch wins, #09 Eliott (in the show anyway) and #46 Yeley make it in. Elliott making it in gets #15 Waltrip in based on his Q-speed.

I am gutted for Regan Smith, because he was the car who pushed Busch to the finish, and if he could have pulled the pass off, it would have been in victory lane.

Another spoiler

Jeff Burton takes the second duel by a nose over Bowyer.

The field is set, but can't seem to find a good link yet of a full lineup.

Jayski has the drivers "Missing the Daytona 500 are #13-Mears, #60-Bodine, #64-Cope, #66-McDowell and #97-Conway"

Not sure how much I enjoyed the racing. It is better than a 43 car, 200 mph "parade" and the buddy system brings a completely different aspect to the whole plate racing system, but it is just very odd to me.

Same - watched both races this morning (Oz time) with very mixed feelings. Liked the suggestion of one of the commentators to cut the trophy in half and have two winners.

Don't honestly know if they're going to be able to sustain the pairs running for 500 miles but it feels like there are less possible race outcomes as a gun driver needs a gun tail-gunner (if that makes sense).

Interesting that the normal last lap frenzy seemed much calmer.

I was not able to watch the full race until yesterday.

Great to see Bayne and Wood Brothers in victory circle!

Hope this will give Wood Brothers a boost so they return fulltime in the coming years.
