Favourite Drivers
Another thread got me reminiscing about some great drivers of the past. And curious as to who everybody might pick as their top-five all-time favourite ChampCar pilots.
Alex Zanardi Rick Mears Al Unser, Jr. Mario Andretti Paul Tracy Until recently, PT wouldn't have been on that list. Likely would have been Helio, Villeneuve or even Ribeiro. |

My favourite CART drivers:
1. forever Greg Moore. I learned to love CART while watching him. then: -Oriol ServiÃ* -Patrick Carpentier I would say Jacques, but I could not watch CART back then, so he's more of an F1 favourite. |

I have followed da Matta since his entry into the CART World Series, and I've also supported Vasser for a while. But my biggest support would probably go towards Michel Jourdain. I've always gone for the underdog.

I don't follow CART a great deal...
...but over the years I've supported Dario Franchitti and Jason Bright are probably the two drivers I've been happiest to watch race, Zanardi and da Matta are two others. |

Bobby Rahal-The F1 champ who never was, the best American driver of his generation, and a local hero.
Emerson Fittipaldi-A true master. Nothing more needs be said. Arie Luyendyke-The perpetual underdog, you've got to love the guy. Alex Zanardi-How can you _not_ adore Zanardi?! Roberto Moreno-He's got more heart than men twice his size, and he's a perpetual hard-luck case. Greg Moore-A brilliant career cut tragically short. Damn nice guy, excellent driver. Juan Pablo Montoya-A magnificent driver, I've liked him more and more since he went to F1. Jacques Villeneuve-Curb-hopping, poorly shaven son of a legend, and a magnificent driver in his own right. Rick Mears-Rick's another character you can't help but love. Off-roader turned King of Indy, and he really worked to become a better road racer. Mario Andretti-C'mon. I mean, he's Mario! A.J. Foyt-Speaking of characters, A.J. set the benchmark. Last edited by Lee Janotta; 17 Aug 2002 at 02:26. |

1. Greg Moore (To me he represented the ideal race car driver. He didn't have the best equipment, but he never gave up in a race, always gave 110%, wasn't scared of anything and was one of the nicest guys off the track. Kind of like the Gilles Villeneuve of Cart.)
2. Alex Zanardi (I wouldn't have said this back when he was winning everything with Ganassi, but watching him goof off with Max Papis in 2001 around the Cart paddock would make anyone like them. Meeting him this year was an undescribable experience. One look in his eyes and that huge grin made you feel as if there is nothing in this world you can't conquer. ) 3. Paul Tracy (Especially after this year...) 4. Mario Andretti (I honestly don't know him much as a driver, except that he won almost everything there is to win. I know him as a great guy who has fun around the paddock and never ever turns down anyone for an autograph.) |

1. Mario Andretti-simply the best
2. Michael Andretti-a whiner but an incredibly skilled driver 3. Emerson Fittipaldi-you gotta love a guy who drinks OJ 4. Paul Tracy-the biggest kahunas ever. 5. Arie Lyundyke - My daughters first sentence was "Arie won the race." What can I say? Last edited by Flatspot; 17 Aug 2002 at 05:34. |
