Is Juan Montoya human?
What a lap. He makes that Wlliams brick look competitive.

Well, a lot of people have questioned Juan's mental ...er...capabilities but in all fairness, I'd have to say he probably qualifies...
By the way, we don't know what fuel load he was carrying or how many RPM's Mario Theissen allowed the "one-lap-wonder". I'd still think the massive (almost one full second) distance to Schumi is nothing to cheer about. :laugh" |

Put him on the Ferrari and he will go 5 seconds faster than Schumi in the blue brick

If he was running on equal fuel to Michael, and not much less than Ralf (realistically, I think Williams split the strategies - I certainly prefer Montoya to Ralf, but I doubt he's that much better), it was the best lap of the session. He really showed why he's so highly rated. If he is human, he's certainly one of the more gifted specimen.

we will see tomorrow, if we find he is carrying the same amount as Ralf tomorrow , then people need to give him a lot of credit for it .

No way Ralf has the same fuel load than Juan. If he does he should be selling shoes instead of racing. He looked upset when he saw Juan's time as he would not believe it. I wonder why?

I agree Robert, Ralf looked like he was thinking " WHAT THE ..**** , how did he do that?
Cora didn't look pleased either. She was probably dreading the night ahead as Ralf vents his anger at qualifying 9th. Monty..if you think he's good now Ralf just wait till the Brit GP when it's all down to the driver's skill, not the traction control. |

I'm a huge perponent of JPM's skills, but he's clearly running a different fuel stratagy to Ralf. That or Ralf really screwed up and they missed it on TV. (don't think so) It's got to be disheartening for Ralf even if all logical indications are the fuel was the reason. Maybe JPM was .5secs faster than expected, we'll find out tonight/tomorrow.
I hadn't heard before that JPM was stupid. Comments I've heard have indicated that he's a quick study. |

Mania, what a nice way to welcome a new forum member... And RT, who are all those people you referred to? Can you provide any links?
No, the look on Ralf's face revealed it all: Him and Monty can't have been on all that different fuel loads... we'll see tomorrow how the race pans out (or later today, depending on where you're located). RubberD, welcome to 10 Tenths! |

Despite RubberD's strange fetish with Colombian robots, I hate to disappoint him but I do indeed have evidence that Juan Pablo Montoya, is indeed human. Here they are:
2001 Malaysian GP 2001 Austrian GP 2001 Monaco GP 2001 Canadian GP 2001 Hungarian GP 2002 Brazilian GP 2002 San Marino GP 2002 Monaco GP 2002 European GP 2002 Hungarian GP 2002 Italian GP |

Well, it goes to show that The Great Juan is human, as well as being a great driver.

I think it says a lot when the cameras know exactly when to focus in on Ralf- everybody knows the game is up.

He used his brains which was good, but he failed to attack the whole lap. He himself admitted that he took it very easy through turns 1 and 2. Being a whole second away from Michael is nothing to cheer about.
I was actually quite suprised with Juan, I thought he would have been one of the balls out drivers in qualifying. I agree with his conservative attitude, but the laps from Schumi, Jaques, and Panis where a lot more impressive. |

That Ferrari looked like it had at least another good 2 seconds/lap on it. Too bad its wasted on Shumi and Rubinho. Probably Massa would have gone a bit quicker since it took him 2 days to beat Schumi's record at Fiorano in the F2002.

If memory serves me correctly, Ralf never really got to grips with the Williams all weekend, and I think he did make a mistake running wide during his qualifying lap.
Previously, when drivers made mistakes in quals, little attentionwas paid to the lap as they had other laps which took your attention. We'd just say the guy backed off. Juan's lap appeared flawless to me. He was really good. |

Ralf paid a huge price for his poor performance on Friday. The track was not at his best when he went out for the qualifying lap. I do not think they are on differen fuel charge.
Juan lap was perfect considering he the blue brick was hard to keep on the track. |

Don't speak too soon about Montoya! We need to see how he does in the race. I hope he does well.
