1/43 models

I'm doing a bit of work for Model Collector at the moment - some questions

whats the best way to buy models?

whats the most you have spent on models

how many models do you own

what do you collect.

Finally if anyone is looking to sell thier collection please let me know. As I trade in models to fund my racing.

Ebay

Most I have spent on a model was £60

40

F1 1:18s a few 1:43s and CART & a few sports cars

A good business is; at race tracks buying models, then getting the model signed by the driver. That's what I did with a few 1:43 Mansell cars at Silverstone. You double your money.

Hope that helps.

Best way to buy models depends what you want really. I use eBay most often, but also use Trax Motorsport and minichamps.co.uk.

Most spent on a model: on eBay, £100 for a 1:43. Never again!

Own upwards of 100 models, mainly 1:43 but a number of 1:18.

I collect F1 and MotoGP models, from Minichamps and the odd crash helmet. Focus on specific drivers and teams, and also get "landmark" cars such as, say, championship winning cars for example. Not really fussed about extras like signatures as it's not really something that bothers me.

-Depends. For new, and not so rare stuff, a specialist online shop, or even a real shop if you can get to one! Otherwise ebay, or some other obscure online shop.

-I spent £130 on a Sauber C9 model. It's 1:18 though, and gorgeoous. For 1:43's, £30 at most for a Spark Le Mans model. More like £20 though.

-Must be getting close to 50, 1:18s and 1:43s.

-I don't anymore really, as I need the money for other stuff. But I have mainly F1, several Le Mans, and an F3 car.

1/43rd models

Nearly 700 1:43rd models, all but about ten are Le Mans cars. Started by collecting Le Mans winners and then added class winners and then just "interesting" Le Mans cars. Mainly buy from online dealers in the UK, Germany and France. Some from ebay and also swapmeets at the NEC in the UK. Some of these are kits, handbuilts, but mostly diecasts (Minichamps, Ebbro, Ixo, etc, etc.) and the resin "diecasts" (Spark, Bizarre).

Most paid for a diecast was I think £90 (Dauer Porsche 962 Le Mans winner). Don't normally pay over retail though.

Cheers,Mike

Also another good business is fagging the cars up.

I've seen Senna 1:18s that are currently out of stock at £277 on bidding after just several days! It did look pretty sweet, but it was just an original model that he would have spent £5 on replacing the livery with Marlboro. So I guess they thought it was an original Marlboro Mclaren.
I guess you double your money like getting them signed, this time you spend a couple of quid...

Getting a model signed usually has little effect on value. It just depends how many saddos are browsing eBay at the time!

a signed model does infact increase the value, but im not at all bothered about signatures personally.

i like to convert cars i enjoy doing it, the cars always look nice at the end and its also quite satisfying and rewarding

I buy mine from a trusted dealer who I'm good mates with (discounts!!)

By your second question do you mean how much have I spent on one model or all my models- If it's one model, it's $165.

My collection is only small, consists of 19 models. 2x 1:18, 16x 1:43, 1x 1:64.

I collect Australian Touring cars.

Hope this helps!

There are a few in the UK.
racingmodels.co.uk
racingcarshop.co.uk
grandprixmodels.com
gtmodels.co.uk
trax-models.co.uk
to name only a few. Also some very good shops in Germany:
raceland.de and modelissimo.de
Have used all of these, so far without any problems.

Also ebay....

thank you, as you live in chester i assume you know of the model shop called arts and crafts studio, they used to have a very good collection of 1:43 model cars but since they moved to their new premises, the shop has declined a lot.

also since the F1 shop closed down in chester, there really has been nowere that sells car models unfortunately.

thank you for the links btw

The best for Le Mans, F1 and rallymodels is www.racingmodels.co.uk no doubt!

I would recommend TRAX. They stock EVERY single Spark model - unlike some sites who pick out the most popular ones. As I tend to buy rather unusual models I find this very useful!

It was indeed called "F1 and More" and closed down in 2005 I think. However, the same style of shop, with a lot of the same stock has been open for nearly a year just around the corner in Watergate Street. This time it is called Race. Only about 10 or so diecasts though, 8 F1, 1 rally and an Aston Martin DBR9.
