Minshaw moved on to the 1800cc Mk2 in '84, and Greenhalgh quit at the end of that year, and that was it- None of the cars seem to have appeared in other hands, and if the GTI Engineering Group A demonstrator that Richard Lloyd had for sale at the end of '83 ever found a buyer, then they certainly didn't use it in the BTCC
So what was the reason- as you suggest costs, lack of support from VW GB, or difficulty in the supply of Group A parts- Or was it simply a case of Ford offering a better deal for RS1600i runners?

During 1987 it's mentioned a few times in Autosport that Alan Minshaw plans to run his VW Golf at the Bathurst 1000 WTCC race. Suspecting it was his then brand new 1800 cc Golf 2 Group A car, I was surprised that he entered a 1600 cc Golf 1, presumably his 1983 car?:

For the record he and Vic Lee never made it, but still an interesting idea to enter an out dated car half way around the world!
